Hi,

I need to make a decision on which diamond I should go for,

they are both Excellent cuts:

http://www.engagementringsdirect.com/1.04-carat-h-vs1-excellent-cushion-cut-diamond-gid-50604.html

one is H VS1, one is E Si1,

I like that cuts, and from the dimension it looks like H VS1 is better, its bigger as well, but I am also thinking of resale value, which I think E might be better than H?

Can you guys help me out a bit?

Thanks
B

I prefer the E - like its proportions better and I think it is better cut stone - less depth and no facetted girdle. The feather inclusion ( in both ) would need to be assessed.

On the H - the feather could be hidden if you mounted in a 6 claw setting.

Umm, I am not seeing a picture of either one. There is no possible way to evaluate which one is better than the other without pictures. No way. I assume you must have pictures, so please post them if you want feedback.

yes, please request pictures.

I have requested images, nothing have sent to me yet, will ask again,

I think both of them has faceted girdle, and the E color one actually got extremely thick one, which is why I wanted to stay away, and I have heard most of the time you can't see the different between E & H? I could not tell those AVC J color apart lol.

Call and follow up over the phone with your request if you emailed them initially.

This is supposely the picture for the H VS1, I like the bold look, what do you guys think?

LOTS of promise, the faceting is beautiful. Get an ASET of it now to check the performance.

From the images you posted, I actually much prefer the H VS1. I like the shape of it better, as well as the faceting. That is just my personal taste though. Plus, if your soon to be fiancé doesn't want an SI, then this would work.

^+1. I would think the H VS1 would resell better even if the other is an E.

Seems like so many people are into cushions now?!

Resell isn't as big an issue with ERD, I believe they have a buy back policy on their stones.

Why doesn't your lady want an SI stone? And I preferred the H too. Next time ask to put the stones on hold while you wait for the images. And finally, as Mark to find you a different VS stone in budget if he can.

actually, yes they will.

There isn't anything wrong with an SI1 diamond, especially if it's eye clean, many people prefer them. because of the value they can increase their color or carat weight. When I shopped for diamonds I felt the same way that your gf does. Now, that I've spent more time researching what makes a diamond beautiful I'm much much more open to lower colors and clarity....especially when the savings allow for a larger ct weight! ;)

Definitely need to talk to her about it~.. I think the E color one is awesome value! and the other one is sold.

i think SI stones offer tremendous value. if you can find a truly eye-clean SI1 or SI2, such as one with twinning wisps, the inclusions are barely visible with a loupe, let alone the naked eye. additionally, clarity doesnt affect brilliance, fire, etc. it really only means the diamond is more rare. i recently purchased a 1.72ct SI2 stone that is completely eye clean. the only reason it is SI2 is bc it has twinning wisps. without a loupe, i would bet 98% of people couldnt tell the difference between my stone and a VS1. if i was to go for a VS stone, it wouldve been $5-10k more than mine. not worth it at all. the key is to find an SI stone with the RIGHT inclusions. Size and cut were most important to me. I got a XXX big stone with lots of fire and brilliance for a fraction of the cost a VS stone wouldve been. in my personal opinion, the huge price mark ups for VS stones versus SI is nothing more than a ploy by DeBeers to get more money for diamonds that nobody besides a jeweler can tell the difference between.

Tiffany sells you their name. :Up_to_something:

I will say, a girl wants what she wants and with an important purchase like this, I can totally understand why you'd want to give it to her. However, I think it would be a real shame to pass up a gorgeous SI diamond simply because it's an SI even though it could look flawless to the naked eye. Maybe you could take an afternoon and go look at different clarity stones together and see first hand how they look. I'm certainly not trying to push one grade over another, I've had a VVS1, VS2, SI2 and some I had no idea what the clarity grade was, but so far I haven't had one that I could see inclusions face up with the naked eye. But of course you should get whatever diamond is most appealing to you, no matter what it's color or clarity grade. =)

I agree with what everyone says about SI stones. That SAID I think that particular E SI posted has a bowtie, so I would ask about that because for me that would be a no go.
