I'm deciding between 2 rings to buy for my proposal that is coming up. One option is a round 1.73 carat H VS2 Truehearts diamond with no fluorescence, and the other is a round 1.78 carat G VS1 Truehearts diamond with medium blue fluorescence. The price difference is about $1,500 more for the latter.

Which is a better value for the money?

Usually I like the idea of fluorescence but just comparing the two videos, the one with fluor seems cloudy...

+1 to this.

Thx for the input!

Any idea as to why a diamond with higher color and clarity would appear more cloudy?

Check out this page: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamondfluorescence.html From my reading, occasionally fluorescence will give a diamond a milky/oily/cloudy appearance. Usually it doesn't but sometimes it does. If you jump to like 16:30 of the video on that page he shows a comparison of what a cloudy diamond with fluor looks like next to a non fluor diamond.

I've watched the video and it does a very good job at showing the difference. However, in this case, could it just be a matter of how James Allen took the picture of the diamond?

This thread discusses the issue at hand. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/hazy-foggy-looking-james-allen-images.201952/

Re: H color with no fluorescence or G color with medium fluo

Just ask JA to check and let you know. The difference between the two stones is more due to color and fluorescence than size. Me the fact that there is only $1500 increase from H to G shows that the market has discounted the G for the fluorescence.

Assuming there are no problems with milkiness, the question becomes which color do you prefer, G or H. Or do you have a strong preference for fluorescence? Some people do. I would hppily pay $1500 more for a G cause I like higher colors. Others can't tell the difference between and h or a G and may want to save the $1500. Depends on your preferences.

In regards to fluorescence and a hazy or milky appearance - most PS vendors will have an in-house gemologist that can inspect the diamond before it ships.
