Gypsy,

I have ordered two previous lower depth hence I don't know how the higher dept looks like. What's the difference between lower depth (60 - 61) and high (61 - 62). I know you love diamonds in the 62 degree, can you tell me how different does it looks?

Me and fiance got 5 days left to replace our current diamond with another one, and we're thinking of replacing our current one (GIA 2156670785) with a new one (GIA 2186608819)

I'd love to help you.
But I don't understand what you are saying about depth. I don't love any depths. At all. It's all about how the depth/table/crown/pavilion work together.
I will look at the diamonds you are considering.

They both have great numbers. One is larger at 7.5mm versus the current stone at 7.3mm. But they are equally great from the numbers. Can you get an idealscope of the new one? There is actually very little difference between the two in terms of angles, just that tiny bit more depth in one. Neither of them are shallow or deep. They are both frankly in a perfect range when it comes to depth.

My only opinion is that: I personally wouldn't pay for VVS clarity in a round. But if you want to, that's fine as it is a personal preference thing.

I've read many of your post. And also see many of your recommendation of diamonds to others. I notice you almost always choose depth greater than 61.5
There was one post you also mentioned you like 62ish depth better than 60ish depth. I always chose the 60ish depth as it gives more spread looks, looks bigger than its carat weight. I have always wonder why you chose the 62ish depth over 60ish depth and wonder how difference it look.

I will send in the old diamond on Thursday, and they'll send back the new one two weeks later. So I wont be able to get the Ideal Scope or Aset Scope until then.

Also I downgraded from an F to a G. But the new diamond upgraded in carat weight from 1.43ct to 1.58ct and Fluorescence to None and Clarity to VVS2. Old one diamond price is $15,301 while new one is $16,871. Good move/bad move?

Accordingly to the Rapaport (attached), I bought the old one at EXACT highest retail value where the new one's price is more bang for the bux?

I pick the best stone available to me when I am picking stones for others, keeping in mind THEIR priorities and their budget.

I too have a preference for stones in the 60's with depths, for exactly the reason you mention. But depths up to 62.4 is what we recommend because otherwise we would be throwing out perfectly good stones that will fit people's needs and budgets.

I don't do my recommendations based on my personal preferences for the most part. I try to recommend the best stones I can find for their budget based on their needs.

As for your stones.... I think they are TRULY great picks from the information you have. An idealscope image is preferred though, because numbers only take you so far.

As for the two stones prices. I can't tell you what you should do. I can tell you both prices are very fair. And that if the extra size boost is worth 1,500 to you, then go for it. It's a win/win situation. There is no bad choice. I promise.

I did not say that a 62 depth is better than a 60 depth.

I may have said the STONE with the 62 depth was better than the STONE with the 60 depth. But it was not because of the DEPTH that I would have said that.

I was probably referring to the angle combination.

Except for depths over 62.4 I do not really care what the depth of the stone is AS LONG AS IT WORKS WITH THE ANGLES.

You misunderstood what I was saying to mean that the depth was the reason one stone was better than the other. I can assure you that was not the case provided both stones had depths shallower than 62.4.

The reason why I chose the VVS for the simple fact that it's being ordered online, especially through BlueNile. I saw SI and VS at local brick and mortar stores, and I can see inclusions. Eye clean is a judgement from a feet or so away from the diamond. The wear is will see it with the lifetime being on her finger. I rather get VVS just for safe sake. I still think pinpoints are still too much and irritating to have.

If you saw inclusions you did not see correctly graded (GIA or AGS) VS1's.

Seriously. Lab grading makes a big difference. And VS1 is 99% of the time eyeclean. Unless you have super duper vision. And most VS2's will be eyeclean as well. Though not all. But there is a big difference between VS2 and VS1.

You do not need VVS. BUT the VVS stones you picked are gorgeous.
