Guildlines there all along to fancies?

Yo pricescopies.
I have read tons about fancies and their individuality when it comes to cut parameters. Have read Ceuller's and Atlas's recommendations as well and am also aware soon there will be more "guidelines" added to the soup. I know that obviously due to the differing shapes this is a hard task. However, I am curious about these charts that accompany sarins. I mean to me this is clear that in Sarin's opinion the first column's parameters include the better marquise. i.e l/w is best at 1.75-2.25 ect ect.

Nope. I have not I am looking for an appraissor to send the one I like too. U know I am picky.


Anyhoo, I plan on buying more than a Marquise. That''s just for the engagement . I find I am addicted to all gem stones now!

The picture in your first post is a bit of a Megascope report, I read "Sarin" and somehow... the comment came out about the "manufacturer" format in the Sarin report. Totally unrelated.

The format of Megascope reports is explained HERE on the OGI website.

Since the refference parameters in that table can be customized by users (= sellers), I have no idea where those are coming from and what they mean for a marquise cut.

Val, No problem I lose it on a daily bases! That thing/chart is one that has come side by side with some sarins/ogis I got for Marquise stones. Now it looks like to me that it is a chart that spells out in "someones" opinion what consitutes good numbers.

All the experts continue to say there are no rules for fancy stones yet when I come across something like this it contradicts their statements. I believe there are rules. It is just they are not followed en mass yet.

OH SO SARIN and OGI did not set this the vender did. hmmmm That sucks. So they can tell me a crown angle of 31 is good.

That is just wrong.

Well... there are recipes of course, because the looks of diamonds can be modeled precisely, so the outcome of one or another cut model and modification can be analyzed.

What is "good" versus "ugly" remains anyone's guess, so making rules is rather hard. No one cared to negotiate some consensus about fancoes yet, as it was done (partially) for the relatively simple round brilliants.

The bright side of this: you can do the same.

You could devize your own rules based on such models and information - GemCad (free but not all that great) and GemAdviser ($300 and allot better) are made just for that. However, it is tedious (even for an obsessed freak like myself !) and thankless work.

The first 30 minutes demonstrate why cut grades made by others are actually worth paying for ...

Buyers comming up with thei own, personal cut prefferences ! Crazy idea, no ?
