I haven't been able to get this 5.18 carat Rahaminov rose cut out of my mind since it was posted on here last week. I had to go to my jeweler today to have my rose cut sent out again to be fixed (long story) and I knew my jeweler carried Rahaminov. Well there it was in the case. My eyes about bugged out. It was very lovely. However . . .
Guess how much I was quoted for this puppy? Try $369,000. When my mouth fell open, the sales clerk tried to argue that it was an F color. It still seemed beyond overpriced, but I wondered what you all think about it.
About my ring, https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/20th-anniversary-rose-cut-lots-of-pics.180671/........... I got the ring last fall as some of you may recall. In December, one of the smaller stones fell out; hubby managed to find the lost stone on his mom's dark carpet. Sent off to manufacturer to tighten several loose stones and the jeweler fell all over themselves about it, apologizing and taking full responsibility. We were told to bring it in every 6 months to check for loose stones as a precautionary measure due to the setting, shared prongs, etc.
Last night I was tapping my hand on my leg and I could hear a stone loose again. I found another small stone loose and was able to move it with my finger. Took it in today and one of the jewelers that works in the back came out and basically told me they weren't THAT loose-- she's seen a lot worse. When I explained about the stone falling out 6 months ago and being advised to bring it in religiously, she then said this ring is always going to have problems unless I only wear it very occasionally.
I feel like crying. I realize the limitations of my setting; the shared prongs are very small-- you can barely see them. The jeweler pointed out that the girdles on the outside stones are very exposed as well and that any bumping can result in a loose stone. But I want to have something I can wear and enjoy. Debating picking out more of a solitaire-type rose cut ring, but I am emotionally attached to mine right now. I guess I will think things over. Also have pondered getting a slightly larger center rose cut (maybe 1.5 to 2 carats) and having it set like the jumbo 5 carat here with the bullet sides.
Thanks for letting me vent! So excited to have seen that 5 carat in person, I couldn't wait to share!
