Is there anything I can take or eat to make my hair grow out longer (and maybe, faster)? I have always had a hard time growing it out since I get it highlighted quite frequently. I know this is probably causing it damage... but I''m truly addicted. I''ve heard pre-natals work, but then I''ve heard they don''t?

I''m curious to hear opinions.

biotin, I think, may help.

I don't think anything has really been proven medically to make hair grow faster or else there would be many products on the market that cost a lot of $, but work. None seem to work as far as I know.

A good prenatal can't hurt anything, but it's not necessarily going to help noticeably (didn't make my hair grow faster). But they are cheap enough that it is certainly worth a try!

You DO need to stop damaging you hair though, because it could be causing it to break prematurely, thus it appears it isn't growing, when it really is but then the ends are breaking KWIM? Protein couldn't hurt either as that is what hair is made of...

Exercise might also help as it stimulates blood flow to the head and thus the hair follicles...but I am really stretching here!

Supplements wont hurt to try. How often are you getting your hair trimmed? If you want to keep it healthy get it cut every 3-4 months. Do you wait as long as you can before touching up your color? I personally can go a lot longer than 6-8 weeks before retouches. If you use heat styling tools give your hair a break when you can & make sure you are using a heat styling cream/silicone protectant etc.. before styling.

I have very long healthy hair, down to my waist, and while a prenatal won''t hurt, there isn''t anything that will make it grow faster.
You can however, reduce breakage which helps a lot.

STOP highlighting, it sounds like you have fragile hair and that really doesn''t help.
don''t brush your hair when it is wet, it causes it to break far more easily
use conditioner
take warm, not hot showers and then rinse your hair in cold water. Not fun, but it seals the outer scales which strengthens hair and makes it much shinnier.
don''t use blow dryers, straighteners and any other heat products, it is really damaging.
UV can be damaging if you get a lot of sun, so a hat is a good plan.
start brushing your hair from the bottom and slowly work up, it is a much beter way to remove tangles.

As much as you don''t want to hear this, you need to lay off the highlighting. Discoloring your hair compromises the integrity of it, leading towards fraying ends and massive breakage. I don''t care how long your hair is, if its damaged, it''s not pretty.

Yes, "biotin" and "prenats" have been rumored to help hair grow. But the one proven thing I''ve truthfully seen promote hair is is regular trims.

One of my friends who has beautiful long hair swears by the Garnier Nutrisse shampoo and conditioner long hair formulas to help control breakage. Oh -- and she also stopped highlighting/coloring her hair.

I am also desperate to grow out my hair because I am getting married and want to wear my hair LONG and DOWN!

I went to my stylist to get a trim and she confirmed that I have a great plan of attack:

1.)Have my hair trimmed (very, very little bit, maybe 1/2 an inch)every 3-4 months
2.)Lay off on the flat iron and blow dryer during the week (only use it when I get dolled up on weekends)
3.)Taking one Multi-vitamin a day, and 5000 mg biotin
4.)Use REDKIN EXTREME (shampoo, conditioner, and "anti-snap" leave in conditioner) because I have my hair chemically straightened. The stuff isn''t cheap, but it will help rebuild the protein in your hair, and beautiful hair is priceless!

Every single fact that I''ve ever heard about hair growth is that there is absolutelly NOTHING you can do to make it grow FASTER. The only thing you can do is make it healthier as it grows so that you KEEP IT!

#1. Stop bleaching your hair... ask your stylist to use a high lift hair DYE

Use product that is meant to repair damaged hair, and try not to over brush your hair... esp when it''s wet!

Also... a regular trim is important in keeping it healthy to grow it long... I know it sounds backwards... cut it to grow it out... but it''s true!

Prenatals don''t make your hair grow faster... just makes it healthier... and be careful with that... there is SO MUCH IRON in those things... you will end up with problems you don''t want!
