Okay, so my groom is purchasing a suit to wear at our wedding. We''re having a very small (15 guests) wedding at my parents'' home and a reception at an old, artsy, waterfront restaurant. The wedding starts at 4pm on June 1 and we live in the southeast, so it''ll be at least 80-85 degrees, possibly hotter.

I know nothing about suits. We work in academia where most men don''t wear them. I''d like him to get one that doesn''t look to "corporate" yet could be worn again for professional occasions (job interviews, etc). Is there a type of suit that is more appropriate for weddings in terms of fabric, number of buttons, color, etc? I don''t think he''ll wear a light colored suit...but he might go with charcoal gray or something. Do most grooms wear black? Are dark suits appropriate for June? I''m so lost...

Joseph A. Banks has their huge sale on right now, and they''ve got a number of suits on sale here Which of these suits do you like for a groom?

By the way, this is what my dress looks like (see pic). Our guests are wearing dressy attire, no tuxes (obviously) or very formal attire. But suit and tie, dresses, etc...

i took a quick poll, haha, and according to my FI, two button is more casual, and anything either tan or light gray would be appropriate both for your wedding and for other occasions. as for the last sentence of your first paragraph about temperatures in the southeast in june, i couldn''t help but laugh. i''m in georgia, and it''s 81 degrees outside right now, so by june, you can bet your fat aunt fanny it''ll be hotter than the low 80s! we''re getting married in october, and even with our date being so much closer to fall weather, i''m still making my FI get two shirts in case he gets all hot and sweaty and needs to change after our outdoor ceremony. are y''all getting married IN your parents'' home or outside?

FI got a great deal on a charcoal pinstripe suit by Ralph Lauren. He''s wearing a white shirt (with cufflinks) and mint green tie from Jcrew. This is for a May wedding and I think the charcoal is a nice summery alternative to black. Our other option was navy which I think would work also.
As far as Joseph Banks… I didn''t look extensively but I do like the tan color that they offer. Have you checked out Brooks Brothers? We found a nice suit there that was one of their "entry level" suits but still wool. It was only partially lined I think and was made to be airy, cool, and perfect for travel because of its wrinkly resistance or something like that. FI loved it and it was perfect for a summer wedding but no one had it in his size.

At that heat you want cotton, not wool. He will burn to death and cotton is more casual anyway.

The wedding will be inside, so hopefully we won''t be too hot. I''m in NC, and we have already had a few days in the 80s, so we may very well be in the 90s by June 1. I was under the impression that suits should have some wool in them in order to look formal enough though...but do men wear cotton suits in summer?

I haven''t checked out Brooks Brothers or anywhere else...I''ll do that. The charcoal pinstripe suit with mint green tie sounds fabulous!

So, we need 3 buttons on the coat..any other advice on fabric?

Thanks ya''ll!

I''ve seen linen suits (cute but wrinkly) and cotton seersucker suits (AVOID AVOID AVOID) but never a nice cotton suit. All suits should have some wool in them.
