Groom to be needs advice - Secret addition to gown

So, I'm wondering if this is sweet, or if I am overstepping my boundaries and likely to anger my bride to be?

I want to have the bridal shop sew a small, silk pocket with a snap closure into the neckline of her gown.

The purpose of this, in my mind, is so that she has a secure place to keep her grandfather's wedding band close to her heart on our big day.

It's so sweet that you want to do this for her jmarshall but I'm not sure you want to mess with the wedding gown in any way as we women can be particular about these things. She might love it but then again she might not be thrilled if it changes the look of the gown (the way it lays on her) in any way. How about getting a gold or platinum chain on which she can wear it if she so chooses on your special day? In any case it is a romantic thought and a good idea however you decide to carry it out.

jmarshall, that is a sweet idea. I didn't something similar with my dress to honor my grandmother and have her with me on my wedding day. Missy raises some legitimate concerns, though. Would you consider suggesting the idea to your fiancee so she can explore the possibilities with her seamstress?

i would not want my groom doing anything with the gown. Maybe buy her a wedding gift thats a necklace, she can wear it during the ceremony, slip the ring on it too

She is lucky to have someone so thoughtful!

It is a sweet idea and I love that you want to surprise her but I do have to say that if my FI had the slightest change made to my gown I would probably break down in tears and be super mad. (The only recovery being if I could get into the gown and it fit just perfectly and I was able to see that through my stress!)

I've seen people carry a pouch with their flowers. I've also seen people tie stuff like that to the bouquet so that it dangles and is more visible.

A chain is a nice idea for later, but if she already has her jewelry picked out it may not be so good for the wedding day.

I agree with the others that it's a sweet idea, I wouldn't suggest messing with any bride's gown without her knowledge and consent. If you're set on it being a surprise, I like the idea of the pouch with her flowers best. Like TP -- I'm not sure she'd want to wear it on a necklace unless it was her choice because she may have other ideas about what she wants to wear as her bridal jewelry.

Another idea, though veering from the ring but keeping with the grandfather and surprise, is to have a nice picture of her grandfather (or her with her grandfather) framed and placed somewhere associated with the ceremony or reception. All of my grandparents were deceased when I got married, so we put pictures of them on the mantel where the reception was held. You could put the picture(s) on the table with ceremony programs or wedding guest escort/place cards. Alternatively, if there's only one picture, you could put it on the sweetheart table.

In addition to being a nice surprise at the wedding, it will be a great keepsake for later.
