Hello.

I have been lurking here for about 3 years or so absorbing all sorts of knowledge. Many thanks to everyone whom I have sucked knowledge from that didn''t know it.

I recently had my 1.04 RB reset into a Scott Kay solitaire (I went with Palladium). I went with the forum''s advice and requested that Scott Kay set the stone. I have been pleased overall at the outcome, but noticed my ring was catching, so took a closer look with my loupe.

I did some searching and can''t seem to gauge whether or not this stone is set in an acceptable manner. I would be most grateful for your feedback on this. I will attempt to attach a photo of the prong in question. (Please forgive how incredibly dirty the ring is )

I thought I would also add a pic of the ring as a whole for your viewing pleasure.

I'm not an expert at this stuff, but it does look like it's off a bit. The seat part doesn't seem to cover the diamond correctly.

Beautiful ring by the way, I hope you will post some more pictures!!!

That doesn''t look right at all.
I''m not an expert either...
But I would assume the diamond is supposed to sit snug in the prong and there shouldn''t be all that space. Kind of looks crooked too.

Thanks for all of your replies - and thanks Pyramid for the link. I didn''t think that it looked right. I try not to whip out the loupe if I don''t need to since I can be sooo particular. This one really has me scratching my head. It sort of makes me wonder if Scott Kay actually set the diamond? I would think they wouldn''t send out a ring with such a gap! Here''s another just for kicks (sorry about the fuzz), but I guess I''ll be headed to my jeweler on Monday to let her know about this.

Oh, and luckystar... it isn''t crooked (amazingly). It''s set straight as can be. That''s the first thing I look for is symmetry! I can''t stand when things are lopsided!

I''ll post more ring shots in SMTR.

I'd email the pics to your vendor and then have the ring sent back to Scott Kay to be fixed. I'm surprised it got through Scott Kay quality control and then through the vendor you bought it from. But things do happen and slip though from time to time. Good news is it's something that can be fixed

So I thought I would post an update on this as I''m really upset! I called my vendor to speak with my salesperson and she''s not in on Mondays. I called SK to ask them about what the procedure would be to get the ring back to them and they could not find any record of having set my stone. I was able to provide them with the date of purchase and my vendor and they said typically my vendor doesn''t send diamonds in for them to set and this is no exception.

Thing is, I''m pretty upset about this because I specifically requested my stone be sent to SK to be set. I am not going to react too strongly until I can speak with my salesperson, but I''m really going to be upset if I was lied to. OY!!!

SK was totally sweet about it saying they would do whatever it took to make it perfect - which of course was really great - but it does not make me look forward to calling my vendor tomorrow to figure out what went wrong.

Do you ever get the feeling at BM''s that SOME salespeople are just patting you on the head and saying ''there there now don''t worry your pretty little head about it'' like you are a child? Like this... you ASKED for your diamond to be sent to Scott Kay, they figured you''d never no the difference, and had probably just heard it from someone and were overreacting so they lied to you while setting it (less expensively) themselves.

I have been lied to so many times by BM''s (though not Joe Escrobar where my rings are currently in for work) that it''s really amazing I even walk into them anymore. Which honestly? I barely do anymore.

You totally nailed it. Thing is, I''ve purchased from her before and I thought I could trust her. When she asked me why I wanted it sent to SK, I said "just for kicks so I know it''s perfect". She even had me bring my ring in on a Wednesday because they don''t like to "ship over the weekend". Are you kidding me?!?! I even called her that following Tuesday to make sure my ring got to NJ ok and she was like "yup, it''s just fine". At that moment I felt funny. Anyway... I just really hope I''m overreacting and it''s all a misunderstanding.

Okay, I''m almost peeing my pants reading this after just seeing Pandora11''s comment on spelling in "confused"

Oh...it does sound more sneaky after reading you last entry. The good news is you haven''t lost your stone...and unless they damaged it setting it the only thing you will be out is the time sent in to get it right.

I have had the same situation...and I didn''t give the business an opportunity to mess with me again. I wonder if you could call SK again and ask how YOU can direct send it to them. If it comes to that. Not sure I would want these other monkeys in the mix. SK should do this work and bill them. Not you. And no shipping either. This is not your fault. You did nothing to cause this setting error. You went with a SK peice because you knew it was well built...you requested the manufacturer to set it..NO BO BO the Clown boy...because you knew it would be done right. It doesn''t matter that it wasn''t convenient for vendor THAT WAS WHAT YOU REQUESTED.

Like you said you will wait until you talk to her...but I dont'' think she is going to be forthright in coming clean. She probably will say they sent it in a bulk group and therefore SK didn''t know what name to look under. Odds are...someone at SK will try to protect the vendor...as you are just one sale.

Sorry you are in this situation...

THANKS I needed that!

I am quite certain that I''m not going to get a direct answer. When I spoke with the lovely lady at SK, she was pretty much able to pinpoint which order I was speaking of because I knew the model number of my ring and the date (within a few days) it was ordered. *sigh* She was careful with what she said, but did say that normally they do not set the stones for this vendor and it didn''t look like this one was anything special.

I DID ask if I could just deal with them directly and she said no - it had to be done through the vendor. There are only 2 other SK vendors in town. You know, I would have totally paid extra for them to ship to SK. Right now, I''m upset enough about being lied to that I may just demand my money back and have them dismount my stone on the spot to take my biz elsewhere... assuming I can get her to come clean on this. I guess I''m gonna have to play "dumb girl" and see if I can coax it out of her.

BTW - have I said how much I LOVE PS?!?! None of my other friends understand my obsession with diamonds/jewelry and it''s so nice to come here and have people understand.

my thoughts and perhaps comments would be along the lines of "you LIED to me - how can I ever trust you again?" and I would ship it myself usps and expect them to reemburse me. It isn''t that much, under $30.

Your ring is really beautiful and I would be upset, too!!! I would do exactly what you said, have them remove the diamond and refund your money and start over elsewehere. They deliberately deceived you and I wouldn''t want to deal with them. And one other factor, I wouldn''t want that damaged setting repaired. I''d want a brand new SK setting.

I feel so good that I''m not crazy.

I think that SK would actually make a whole new setting for me on that. I wanted the diamond set high, so if they have to cut the prongs down and reset it, the diamond will be too low for my taste.

What a mess - I feel like I am always in some sort of weird predicament with this stuff. My previous jeweler ruined my ring and prior to that, the last time I had them fix my crown (they had to replace it) I SWORE something was "off". It was platinum before and it just didn''t have that patina even after a week or so and I could tell it wasn''t platinum. Turns out, when I went to another jeweler for my new setting, the crown turned out to be 14k. The previous jeweler had to refund me $180 I pad to have a plat crown.

*sigh*
