Hi all

Please can you let me know if any of these details seem concerning? I am going to buy this to see it, but don't want to do this if it's a dud! I cannot obtain images, but can call in diamonds though have to pay return postage as this is with BlueNile.

This diamond has an HCA of 1.8, but I'm wondering if the crown angles or pavilion angles are concerning? I've run it through the HCA, and the ACA NAJA cut class diamond grading tool. The latter causes me some worries about the diamond, but I'm not very good with translating the numbers into the reality of the diamond....

Total Depth:61.1%
Table percent:59%
Crown height:13.5
Girdle (from):Medium
Girdle (to):Slightly thick
Polish:Excellent
Symmetry:Excellent
Crown angle:34.0 deg
Pav angle 41.0 deg

Pavilion depth:43.5%

Thanks in advance!!!

The angles are fine. Are you having them do an idealscope image for you? I'd definitely do that before having the stone sent. I generally look for smaller tables than 59, but that is not really a problem.

BlueNile refuse point blank to do an IS. They won't send an image, either. Is this the usual level of service they provide?

I was planning to just order it, have it appraised by someone and if it's no good, then send it back.
But I didn't want to do this if it may not be a good option. As I will have to pay for the postage and insurance, so would not want to do this if you thought it was not a good option.

I should mention that return postage and insurance runs into a couple of hundred dollars, so that's why the concern before pulling the trigger.

Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Are you in the US? If so, a lot of vendors provide pictures and idealscope images and some have better upgrade policies than Blue Nile. I'd suggest taking a quick look at James Allen, WhiteFlash, and Good Old Gold, just to name a few good ones. But someone recently told us that BN was charging $50 to do an idealscope image, so maybe they have changed their minds about doing them.

If you want to see an IS, you might want to shop somewhere else. As BN is a drop shipper, other venders probably have that same diamond "in stock" and can get an IS for you.

Thank you very much. I am currently in Europe, but will have another look at JA, WF, GOG. thanks a lot.

I would be willing to pay for the IS - which I have expressed to them, but they are refusing even a photo! They have said it depends on the available technology at each vault, so varies. And apparently a picture is too much in this case!

Thanks for the advice. I think now BN have a large number of diamonds which are not available to other PS vendors. I'm not sure how they have managed this, but they have inventory which is not otherwise available on the search function. Very strange!

Re: Grateful for help before ordering, have under 24hrs of h

My understanding is that BN requires that it's vendors not list their stones with BN competitors, however that doesn't mean that another vendor can't acquire the stone for you. If you contacted a vendor such as JA, IDJ, GOG, WF etc and provide them with the GIA report # then it's possible that they can have the stone called in for you, they would then provide you with the diamond images and IS. IDJ states that they will beat BNs price as well, so it may be something to consider. The exception I believe is with the BN signature line. I believe that BN has these stones in house and therefore are unavailable to other online vendors.

I am working with IDJ to find a 2ct diamond. You can definitely call them on Wednesday and tell Yekutiel what you're looking for. The store is closed tomorrow and the day after tomorrow for Jewish holidays. He can get diamonds that are listed on BN as long as they are located in New York.
