Grandparent and Discipline Conflict

Good for you Packrat, I admire what you did, not easy but you did the right thing for your kids.

Sorry, but I just wouldn''t tolerate anyone, let alone a grandparent, call my kid stupid, make fun of him/her, or lay guilt trips on him/her. I know they will probably get a decent dose of it from the outside world when they get older, but they don''t need to deal with that crap from someone who loves them, especially when they are that little. I''m sure it''s very confusing to a child to be talked to in a mean way and then have a parent jump in and say grandparent shouldn''t say things like that. And furthermore, I myself would be a total wreck after a week of trying to explain to my kid why grandparent is nasty to him/her. Honestly, who needs it? I would lay the law down for this grandparent...no insults, no guilt, no ridiculing. Pretty simple and straight forward. If the grandparent can''t do that, I would stop the visits. Would we as adults tolerate for one second someone treating us like that? Of course not. Then why is it ok to treat a child in such a way? I don''t get it.
