Is it "We''ve Eloped" or "We Eloped?" I''m leaning towards "we''ve" My logic is that elope is a verb, so "we elope," but "we''ve eloped." Does anyone know the answer?

I must say I think either is correct. We have eloped and We eloped seem equally fine to me. I might opt for We eloped but that is just me. (it is the verb that is throwing me. You would say, We have done it (eloped) or We did it (eloped) and both are right.

"We''ve eloped" is the correct one I believe.

Ditto - We''ve Eloped or We Have Eloped.

I would go with "We eloped!"

While "We''ve Eloped" sounds better..I''d probably go with "We Eloped!" because "We''ve Eloped" sounds like passive-construction to me and that would drive me nuts..just personal preference.

Either is correct English. I would use "we eloped" if it''s over and done with and you''re back at home, and "we''ve eloped" if it''s just happened or you''re still away wherever you guys ran off to.

To decide, you have to put it in a sentence...

Do you mean to be saying: We eloped yesterday!

or: We have eloped since you last saw us!

On my card, it just says "we" or "we''ve" eloped and then inside it says "announcing the marriage of x and x San Francisco City Hall 9/9/08"

So maybe "we" eloped works better?

I believe both are proper English, but I would go with "we''ve eloped" because I don''t like the sound of the 2 long E vowels running together in "we eloped." I prefer the "v" consonant sound separating them.

I didn''t mean you actually had to write out the whole sentence on the card, I just meant that there''s a slight difference in meaning, but they are both correct depending on what you *would* be saying if you lengthened the sentence.

I would go with just "We" - "We''ve Eloped" sounds like you''re still there and you''re letting people know it just happened. "We Eloped" sounds like we did it and it''s done and we''re home.

BUT you''re not going to go wrong with either one - they''re both correct English.
