got the ring! what it a good idea?

So my e-ring from union diamonds arrived today. I just pulled out the certificate so I could post info here. We have 30 days to send it back.

EGL 1.77 ct round brilliant H SI1
measurements- 7.80- 7.78 x 4.88 mm
proportions

no graining, no fluorescence

Jeff at union diamond said it was eyeclean at 10 inches. I can''t look at the ring until fiance proposes tonight. it''s hard to not open the box!

What do you think of the stone? I know EGL is weak (but a good value!), so we are getting it appraised sometime this week.

We bought the stone without seeing the certificate because Jeff said it was a good stone and my fiance got tired of looking at stones.

I checked HCA and it said this stone''s girdle was too thick or my info was incorrect. It''s supposed to be an ideal cut stone with 8 hearts and arrows. I checked the information I inputted against the HCA so I put all of the numbers in correctly...

Do you know the crown and pavilian angles?

As is, I assume the 13% is the crown angle in %, and that you means 42 degrees for the pavilian angle?

If so, it scored a 3.6 on the HCA.

The HCA won''t even calculate because the girdle is so thick.

EGL is rarely a ''good value'' - prices often appear lower than comparable GIA or AGS stones because vendors price the stones more along correct grading. Which EGL lab did the report? (Look at the report # and post the first few numbers)

Also check the eyecleanliness in all lighting situations - indoor, outdoor, direct sunlight, etc.

You can do so much better!

I have to agree, can you return it and start again? You can get a much nicer stone.

Thanks for the input! I finally got to look at the ring. It looks pretty spectacular on my size 4 finger, so I am going to get it appraised before I make a decision to keep it or return it. It''s an EGL international certificate, T-28077512. The weird thing was that I could not find the certificate online! I checked EGL international''s website for online verification (so I could download a copy) and they couldn''t find it! Can you fake a certificate? The stone was graded on July 21st, so it might be too new to be in the database. All of the measurements are in % so it is not 42 degrees. Could the rounding in percent account for HCA stating that the girdle is too thick?

The stone is ridiculously eyeclean. I can only see the inclusions when I look through pavilion and they are all white feathers. I cannot see any inclusions through the table. It''s graded as an H, I think it is an I in the I-J range (not an I in the H-I range). It''s still face-up white. And since it has a few feathers, I think it is more an SI2. I can''t testify cut, but it sparkles like crazy in sunlight and indoor lighting. The certificate states the stone is ideal cut, but I don''t know how to figure out if it really is. I wish I had a H&A viewer to see the hearts and arrows really exist and if they are properly made.

I thought the stone was a good value because the equivalent GIA I SI2 1.77 ct RB was around $10K and we paid $8K for this stone. I''m just glad the inclusions are white!

8k sounds like a great price. If you love it I wouldn''t worry so much about the numbers. If you keep it be sure to post pictures. Enjoy

At the top of the page you can Pricescope your Diamond by inputting the stats and get prices of comparable stones. I found EGL stones between $5980 and $8376.

I''d pick another stone myself.
