The jeweler suggest I go with something that has a cathedral (Vatche royal crown) and it has the right proportions so that the diamond doesn''t spin around the finger. I prefer the knife edge tiffany style ring which makes the diamond look bigger. Am i wrong with my assumption observation. would the vatche royal crown and tiffany knife edge classic settings give the same impression on the diamond. My problem is that I don''t want the diamond spinning around the finger AND i don''t want it hitting things (cathedral) which greatly limits my options...

sorry forgot to mention. The diamond is a round brilliant 1.2 ct

Well, there's a couple of options to help spinning. One, is get it sized so it fits properly. Some of us, like me, hate the feeling of any tightness from a ring and wear them a bit loose. Instead make sure it's snug to your finger. Depends of course on your knuckle size how much that works.

Also possible are sizing beads, to little bumps on the inside of the shank. They stop ring spinning and make about a half size tighter fit, yet let enough space to ease over a larger knuckle.

Butterfly sizers also are another possibility, similer idea to the speedbumps.

Frankly, if you like the one style over the other, get that. The look is between those two styles is pretty different. A cathedral setting could indeed be too high for you if you aren't used to wearing rings. I had one as a temp setting on the same sized stone as you and whacked it into stuff all the time (but I am a bit of a spaz and do that anyway). I'd just get what you like, and deal with the spinning issue later. I kinda doubt the other style is going to stop the ring from spinning if it's gonna. That's more to do with the size of your knuckle vs. the size of your finger than anything.

Oh, edited to add: if you finally decide that you can't get a ring snug to your finger because you have larger knuckles, an arthritic ring shank might be your final option. They snap open to slide over a larger knuckle and snap closed over your actual finger.

The Royal Crown is not very high (I love that setting). But, if you prefer the look of the other - that is what matters.
