I recently bought an AGS0 round diamond from GOG and it is a stunning stone. Full of fire and sparkle! And I love the color on it which is an "M".

Specs.

AGS0
Ideal symmetry/Ideal polish
.76 carats modified brilliant (longer lower girdle facets)
M color
VVS2

This stone was bought to replace a .74 carat D, si2 that I had that was so deep it faced up like a .60 carat. Like I said the stone is beautiful and full of fire, but now that I have the ideal cut I almost think that it is much too "busy" looking for my taste

. There is so much sparkle it''s like my eye cannot appreciate it. LOL! Anyway, has anybody ever felt this way before or am just the odd duck?

Also, do you think an asscher would look good in my setting? I DON''T like princess FYI.

Here''s a photo from my first, and so far only, photo shoot

hmmm, maybe you do like the step cuts of larger flashes, and less facet pattern?

I feel this way about all round brilliants (and lots of the fancy shapes too). I was very disheartened looking for a ring because I didn''t love any of the cuts I saw. I think this is what I love most about the OMC, it still has great fire and light performance but I can gaze into the stone and make out what is happening.

I liked asschers for the same reason. They look ''less complicated'' or something to me. If you think you''d love your ring with an asscher and have the ability to change it then by all means do, you are the one that has to love it :)

Of course I still enjoy round cuts and it sounds like you have an amazing stone. Maybe you just need to get used to it after your old stone.

sorry I meant to add that an asscher would look lovely in that setting.

Have you seen this ring by aprillawton? kind of reminds me of your setting, but with bezel

Hi exotic,

Of course you have a full refund policy to take advantage of *but* we are at this moment having our first batch of signature OEC''s cut which may be a solution to this dilemma. Instead of the many tiny/spintery flashes of an H&A the emphasis instead is on fewer/broader flashes which according to your commentary may appeal more to your eyes. I have some clips showing the differences in appearance that may help. Either that or perhaps an OMC cushion may better suite your needs. Either way we''re here to help in whatever way you think will best suite your needs.

Kind regards,

I''m thinking of holding out for Octavia....and a brand new setting for my five year!

Lucky!!!!

I can relate: I have an Emerald cut for that reason. I love step cut stones.............As for your setting I think its at contrast with the intense and dense faceting

That is a VERY good point! Plus with my setting it is also very limited to a certian mm size diamond which is why I figured if I hold out for a special event I could change that out too. Got to talk with DH though and see what he thinks about a different setting.

Hi exotic,

... *but* we are at this moment having our first batch of signature OEC's cut which may be a solution to this dilemma. /

Kind regards,

Oh, shoot. After waiting around several months, I'd given up on that ever happening anytime soon. That may change my decision about the upgrade. How soon will these stones actually hit the market?

exoticisabella, you might look at estate RB diamonds, as in older cuts that are not OEC, OMC, or H&A and perfect symmetry. They have some interesting optics and may be far from today's ideal cuts, but are still very pretty diamonds in their own right. I've only had one superideal H&A and it took time to appreciate it's properties, lol. I have at least six older cut or "mut cut" RB diamonds ranging from .6ct to 2ct, and they are just "good" cut to premium cut, and two of them that I picked before I learned about H&A are actually cut for brilliance and don't have anywhere near the fire of H&A supers. But I still love the way they look, anyway. Big white silvery flashes of brilliance are very eyecatching. David of DBL is correct when he says that diamonds have to be seen, and that's especially true the less "ideal" the cut is.

I admit I am not a fan of most large round diamonds myself. I don''t mind them for accent stones, but particularly the newer ideals with hearts & arrows, I just cannot get into them. I don''t like the "pattern" that I see in most ideal rounds for some reason. Your post made me just realize why I didn''t like them so much. I am much more drawn to the older round cuts or square/rectangular cuts. Even then I am still not 100% sure which I like best. At least that is the good thing about diamonds. They will look totally different depending on the cut so there is something out there for everyone. I just have to find out what is the one that is for me!
