Hi Everyone,

I've been lurking in the background here trying to educate myself about diamonds before I make a purchase, so I figured it was time to actually register and post something.

Anyways, I've found a princess cut that I think looks really good on GOG and wanted to see what you guys thought.
http://www.goodoldgold.com/1_15ct_g_si1_princess.htm

My only reservations were, 1) The crown height might be a little big, and 2) The spread is maybe a little small for a 1.15C princess. Other than that it seems like a great value. I'm probably just being overly-cautious, but I want to give my GF the best!

Also (sorry if this question should go in another section), the setting a really like is by Ritani (not one of the endless loves). I thought I read somewhere that they would only set diamonds that were F and VS2. Can anyone confirm that?

Thanks for everyone’s help. Even if I don't get answers to these questions, I've already been helped a TON by this forum!

i''m sorry i can''t help with your ritani question, i have never dealt with them before.

Hi Belle,

Thanks for the thumbs up. I''m still not 100% certain this is the one for me.... but I''m certain leaning in that direction!

it is always a little scary making a significant purchase such as this. curious though, what''s holding you back?

Now that is a princess cut!!!!

I love how much info GOG provides for their stones, and this one looks damn near perfect. The brillancescope really give such a good visual of how the stone will flash when she moves her hand about. Nice pick all of your studying has paid off!

I like how it doesn''t have a few dark areas...the contrast looks nicely disbursed...so I''m into it! The only thing that makes me cringe is the depth for the only reason that the stone is going to face up small...but other than that...looks really pretty!

Ya, I agree, it looks really nice. I emailed GOG today and will probably call tomorrow. Although, I''m also thinking about this Jubilee:
http://www.goodoldgold.com/jubilee_0_96ct_f_vs1.htm

Its quite a bit smaller as far as Carats go (.96 vs. 1.15), but the spread is actually larger (5.78x5.75 vs. 5.67x5.61). And it looks beautiful! Shopping for diamonds is a lot of fun, too bad they cost so much!

Anyways, I mentioned both stones in my email to GOG to try to get some more info (*price) on the Jubilee. I wish I could see them both. I wonder if GOG would frown on me purchasing both to examine them side-by-side, with the intent on return one?

the spread between those two won''t be that much different. i think the jubilee tends to look smaller due to the cut corners. also once they are set, they have more of a round look. if you are thinking of spending money on a jubliee, you should seriously consider a round. you can get a bigger h&a with superior optics for about the same price. anyway, these are things that you should definitely see and decide for yourself. i am sure that jonathan will send you both stones to compare.

I heard back from Tim at GOG today and I think I''m going to go ahead and purchase the princess cut.

The Jubilee was a little more expensive than I was anticipating, and the princess is a great stone! Anyways, I just had one more question if anyone cared to take a swng at it. I''ve found two different charts for grading princess cuts.

One of them is here: http://www.gemappraisers.com/chartFrameset.htm (you''ll have to select princess from the drop-down menu)
The other is here: http://www.gemappraisers.com/chrt4.htm

Now, I know these charts don''t tell the whole story, but the crown height % is way different between the two charts. The princess I''m looking at has a crown height of 14.4%, which is in the 1A category in the first chart, but the 3A category in the second chart! It looks like the 2''cd one may be out of date, but I just wanted to get the low-down on it.

Thanks.
