Hi, looking at these two stones:
GIA 2166407528 ($4374) and GIA 2176646478 ($4640) with platinum mounts included.

Prices converted to USD for simplicity, these stones are actually in the UK. Vendor doesn't do idealscope/ASET.

If you don't want to search for the stones using GIA report check, here's the spec (both RB):

First stone:
.62 D VS2 XXX
HCA 1.5
5.49 - 5.51 x 3.35 mm
Depth: 60.9
Table: 58
Crown angle 34
Crown height 14
Pavilion angle 41
Pavilion depth 43
Star length 50%
Lower half 80%
Medium to slightly thick (3.5%).
Faint fluorescence
No culet
Twinning wisp only inclusion, laser inscribed.

Second stone:
.73 G VS2 EX VG EX
HCA 0.8
5.82 - 5.85 x 3.58 mm
Depth: 61.3
Table: 54
Crown angle 34.5
Crown height 15.5
Pavilion angle 40.6
Pavilion depth 42.5
Star length 50%
Lower half 80%
Medium (3%).
No fluorescence
No culet
Cloud, feather, laser inscribed.

Is it possible to tell if either of these stones are good without additional images? Also what do you think they are like for value? My partner is happy with either stone, has no real preference but we both want to know if they are likely to be high performers and which is best. Thanks for any help.

Good choice

Thanks for the replies :). So you think these stones are likely high performers? How much difference do you think there would be to the human eye against a ACA stone for example? Buying in the UK is much more convenient for me, but if it were likely to be a big difference getting from the US might be worth it. Also buying in the UK I'd get lifetime free polishing which is a small bonus and I think they said looking after the mount etc for a minimal/no price (provided not user fault).

I am still undecided lol. The diamond size isn't a big deal for me, my partner really likes the size of the .62 too. Is the main reason for picking the second stone the proportions? I like that the first is an XXX, but I have heard mixed opinions as to whether or not a very good vs excellent polish will make any difference to the brilliance. I also hate feathers, but since in the .73 it is not the grade setting inclusion I think that means the feather would be VS1 or higher so it shouldn't be an issue, even without knowing where it is?

I do prefer the proportions of the second stone too. I am guessing they would both probably resemble H&A to an extent, but I understand H&A to be more of a preference rather than 'better'.

Thanks for the help, I need to make a decision pretty quickly as they might sell

I think the preference for the 2nd stone is because of the SIZE.... cause bigger is better  . But seriously, it is because of the smaller table, safer crown and pavillion angles and also higher crown height. I would pick stone 2 too especially since there is no photos and just have to go by numbers. We can't judge hearts and arrows by the numbers, we are trying to predict brilliance, fire and scintillation performance. Yes, I don't think feather in a VS1 would be an issue. It would not be a VS1 or a VS2 for that matter if it was an issue :)) Hope that helps with your decision.

Dear Just Starting.
Based on the information you provided, I would probably go with the D Color for the following reasons.
1. D is truly the rarest color, if the debate would have been between the A F color and A G color, I guess I would have gone with the bigger stone.
2. The 0.63 points seems to be a very nice stone, a combination of such a high color with ideal cutting (3 EX) will create a perfect shining diamond.
3. Clarity: I am pretty confident with a GIA VS2, at the end of the day it means the stone is 100% eye clean and that you are good to go :-)

The only thing I would suggest would be to try and negotiate the price, such a stone should run about $3600.

Thanks for the replies :). I have put a hold on the G, because of the safer angles as noted above. I'll probably buy it soon just working my cash around lol.
