Wondering if any of the pros out there can give me an idea about price on a diamond I''ve just bought. I did as much research as possible, but we all know there is just TOO MUCH to understand and keep in mind. Hard for consumers to know if they paid the right price, or at least a fair markup. I did end up going retail, as I just didn''t feel comfortable going wholesale. But I got them to take a significant amount off of their retail price.

Specs are -
Shape: Round Brilliant
Measurements - 5.83-5.87 x 3.66 mm
Weight -: .76 carat

Porportions:
Depth - 62.6%
Table - 56%
Girdle - Thin to Medium faceted
Culet - none

Finish:
Polish - Very Good
Symmetry - Very Good

Clarity Grade - VS2
Characteristics - Crystal, Cloud

Color Grade - F
Fourescence - None

Laser Inscribed GIA Cert

Price paid for stone: $3635.95

I was ok going VS2 / F for the color and clarity. I saw the Crystal/Cloud under the scope. By sight it''s a beautiful stone so I was okay with the inclusions as they were as well.

Was the price fair? I can still return it... Also thinking I should get it appraised tomorrow, yes?

I'm not an expert, but I HIGHLY recommend getting your stone appraised. Also, have you used the "price stats" link here on PS to see the cost/carat for stones with your specs? If you enter in a 1A round and then click on a stone in your size, it will give you additional choices for narrowing your search. Enter in your numbers (plus or minus 1-2) and see what you get!

I did take a look @ the price stats link. I put in 1A Round.
for .70-.89 VS2 F Average $ per carat was $4128. Assume that means that for .76 carats, price should be around $3137.28 (4128 * .76). Or am I doing that wrong? Lowest Price per carat for that size is 2911. But again, not sure what that all means. Is it fair pricing seeing that I'm close to the average price, and not on the higher end?

Thanks much...

You really should get it appraised by an independent appraiser. Once you have all the measurements (especially crown angle and pavilion angle), and an independent appraisal, you'll be in a much better position to know if you paid a fair price.
