Hi Everyone,

New to the forum but I have been reading on and off for some time now.

My bf decided that we're ready to start seriously looking at engagement rings.

From this board, I know GOG is an excellent place to find asschers.

Would it be safe to give them m price point and tell them to show me the best they can find at that price point?

If not what are some good parameters to give them?

For reference, I want around (under is fine) a carat and don't want to spend more than $8k.

Thanks!

welcome!

That sounds like a perfect plan! If you give them your budget, your 4C parameters (cut, colour - where are you comfortable going as hi/low as), carat (you've said just under the 1ct mark) and clarity (VS2-SI1 but eye clean at "X" inches from top or top/side.... that would be great.

Have you searched the asscher threads? Lots of info and Gypsy is amazing at her asscher knowledge - you could also search her name for where she's posted info... Asschers do face up smaller than RB's for size, but if you've been reading a while, you probably new that - sorry! ;))

Good luck!

Right?? 34.8% T, small even for an Octavia. 1/4 of it is pure crown! AGS diagrams clearly not to scale.

I am a recent purchaser of a GOG asscher. You certainly can give them your budget and any other preferences you may have regarding color and clarity ranges. Jon found some great asschers for me!

The finished ring is in my avatar picture! I will be interested to see your choice!

(I love Octavia's but could get more asscher for the same money. You'll be able to get higher than 1 ct in an asscher because mine was about $5500 for a 1 ct H VVS.)

I agree with what DS said regarding Octavias. I LOVE them  but I'm also a little more of a size wh*re so I asked Jon to just show us traditional asschers. FWIW I got a 1.72 ct for under 7k from GOG...the color is low (L) but clarity was VVS2 and I love it, faces up really white. Jon is fantastic to work with and I think has a really great eye for asschers. My favorite part is that he makes comparison videos which are so helpful if you're buying without being able to see the stone in person.

ETA: here is the link to my video too, just in case you want more examples. If you go to their website you can access their YouTube channel and then type "asscher" into the "Search this Channel" and see a lot of great asscher videos they've done.

Thanks for all the info everyone.

Diamondseeker and beecushion, your rings are gorgeous!

I'm so excited to start the process.

Oh I"m very jealous as I  asschers especially ones with big fat windmills! :cheeky:

GOG typically gets brought up for asschers but I think JA does as well. Plus if you are going to look I would include WF and IDJ just to see what they have and pricing. Though I have a feeling it will be GOG or JA that you end up with.

Congrats on moving to the "looking into erings" stage! So exciting!
