My skin has always been combo/oily (and acne-prone), but during and after pregnancy, it''s become combo/dry. I suppose it doesn''t help that I love hot showers, either!

Can anyone recommend a light, natural (as few chemicals as possible) facial moisturizer? Bonus points if it doesn''t contain salicylic acid; I have a bad reaction to that stuff.

Thanks!

Olive or jojoba oil

Or glycerin, diluted 10:1 water:glycerin.

There are some great products by Origins, I use them, and my mom swears by them.

There's the link.

I rubbed olive oil into half of my face just yesterday as an experiment and you know, I was surprised at how nice it was. I did the other side with aveeno daily mosturizer (which is my fav body stuff) because I am just fed up with so many chemicals and stuff. I am going to continue this experiment. The olive oil left my face with a sheen but less weight. I really liked it. I am hoping that it has exfoliating tendencies the way vaseline does on my lips. It may be what I''ve looked for... hehe from the kitchen!

Julie (and Cehra)- Olive/jojoba oil, huh? To be honest, anything with the word ''oil'' sort of freaks me out having had oily/combo skin my entire life, but I''ll give it a try! Thanks!

Burberry- I''d completely forgotten about Origins! Thanks! The moisturizer with the SPF looks promising.

Try Aubrey Organics, they are totally natural, no chemicals and as the name implies, organic. I am allergic to steric acid and cetyl alcohol and they are in almost every product from shampoo & conditioner, to soaps, moisturizers, etc. I have never had a problem with the Aubrey products, I''ve been using them for about 4 years now...my skin has never looked better. They also offer different products for different skin types.

Good luck!

Hi E!

I'm using this mainly at the moment. I like it a lot. Many things tend to clog my pores/break me out, but this doesn't. That particular one might not be best for you personally, but they have many (award winning) products, check em out.

I use this at night on ocassion for a special treatment, like it too. Same with this one. <----- Just read about you and the word OIL!

Hope this helps!

I''m also combo/dry, and after many years of wasting oodles of money on brands supposedly targeted toward my skin type, I finally discovered Dr. Hauschka''s Moisturizing Day Cream. It gives your skin a lovely, even glow and doesn''t clog pores at all.

My husband and I have both tried several Derma E products with mixed results. A few of their products have really irritated both our faces - redness, itching, swelling - while others work perfectly fine. If you have sensitive skin, be sure to patch test and work it into your routine slowly and don''t use it everyday at first.

I like Avalon Organics products. They don''t irritate my skin at all. I''ve read that if you have dry skin it''s better if you use creams/lotions and stay away from gels. I had pimples for most of my childhood and through college and had used salicylic acid products instead of benzoyle peroxide. I was so happy to learn that salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid. All those years of pimple medication actually helped my skin stay young.

I''ve used Johnson & Johnsons "Purpose" moisturizer since I was in high school. It was recommended by a dermatologist. It''s incredibly gentle, really moisturizing, nongreasy, and doesn''t clog pores. It''s available at any drugstore for about $8.

Jojoba oil should not break you out.

Clinique''s Dramatically Different moisturizer. I use all Clinque products on my skin because there''s no dye or perfume in anything they make. I have very sensitive skin and it''s never bothered me at all.

I checked the label. No salicylic acid. Water, mineral oil, sesame oil, lanolin and some of other things.

I love Bare Escentuals Rare minerals moisturizer. You can try it at Sephora or a bare escentuals boutique. I think they will give you samples to try. I have pretty oily
sensitive skin and this works great for me.

Ditto! I have been using Clinque for 10 years and my skin is great!

I have very sensitive skin too, and it used to be really oily, but nothing works as well as Clinique. I have tried so many different things over the years, but nothing even comes close!!!

Hey! I swear by the Aubrey line. I also use the hair-care line and will probably never defect. I searched for years before I found Aubrey, and my hair and skin has never looked better. I actually look younger now than I did before I started using their skin care products. People have been asking me what I am using, and I gobble the compliments up quite easily

I use organic Safflower oil. I tried olive oil, but was bothered by the lingering smell.

Okay girls I am having an olive oil love affair! I planned to do the experiment for a couple weeks but... let me just back up a sec.

First of all I have been using clinique for about 3 years. I have always had acne issues, especially around that time of the month. I used to use acne stuff but about 3 years ago I got really sick with the flu and after 5 days of near coma on the couch came to realize that I hadn''t showered in days and my face looked better than ever! So I started undoing things and got milder and milder and started putting more and more moisturizer on my face and my face loved it. Less acne. But things still weren''t going well - was having trouble with exfoliation as I had now come to realize my skin is very tender and my trying to get rid of zits was making more! So I gave up on step 2 in my clinique 3step. Just soap and moisture. My face would cry when I got out of the shower and I had to rush to get moisturizer on it before the top layer would literally die on my face.

So I thought I''d do an experiment - not use the clinique and try what I use on my body that I love. But after one day I gave up on the aveeno and started using the olive oil on my whole face. On sunday I rubbed it on my arms and shoulders and even into my scalp! I was a complete grease bomb! I know, right? lol But my skin is in heaven - pure heaven. My wrinkles are almost gone, my skin is glowing like that of a child, the only exfoliation I''m doing is with a hot washcloth - I think the olive oil has an exfoliant quality like vaseline does. LOVE IT!

BUT... I have not reconciled makeup nor sunscreen. I honestly haven''t even wanted to put makeup on though, my skin is so happy. I still feel weird having a cup of oil I cook with in my bathroom, but hey it works!

And yeah it seems weird to throw oil on your face, but I found over the past 3 years that the more water and moisture I threw (and held) to my face, the happier it was and this oil is so light... I would recommend putting a lot on your face when you can or putting it on, waiting a minute, then wiping most of it off rather than just trying to be spare about it.

My scalp also loved it and I can definitely NOT reconcile how to wear greasy looking hair lmao!! so sad lol

As a side note I think this stuff would be great for cleaning ears but I haven''t tried it or researched it... if someone has let me know!

Some of the brands I like:

Zia - Ultimate Moisture for Face (you can get it at Whole Foods). It''s lightweight and smells divine, is excellent for combo skin - around $30.

Origins Make a Difference - they advertise it as a "treatment," but it''s a great moisturizer for combo skin. Also smells great, and is around $35.

A less expensive brand you can find at Whole Foods is Beauty Without Cruelty - they make an Oil-Free Moisture Cream in a pot that''s wonderful, also smells really good, and is only around $10.
