hey everyone,

i was wondering if anyone knew of a reputable jeweler that could smooth out the prongs on my ring? i''m assuming that the diamond will have to be unset and reset because the part that i''m concerned about is right where the diamond girdle rests along the prongs--there are these unsightly "bumps" of excess metal that i''m guessing a good polish job should take care of. any suggestions would be appreciated.

It sounds like there is a bit of extra metal that needs to be de-burred from the mounting, sometimes this can be done with a rubber wheel without removing the stone... Looks like you're in the SF Bay Area, get ahold of Nancy Stacy in Walnut Creek via the appraisers page here on PS - the link is at the top of this page - and ask her for a referral to somebody in your area, she'll know the good ones

Since you're in the bay area, I'd like to recommend my favorite friendly neighborhood jeweler. He made a custom setting for my soon to be fiance. I'd imagine he'd do the polishing cheap, possibly even free. The store is Geoffrey's Diamonds in San Carlos, off 101 and Holly St.
