Good Diamond? (Princess Cut)

Hi all,

I posted here a while ago with some dilemmas about which diamond to get for an engagement ring. Since posting that, my girlfriend and I have come to the conclusion that we'd like something along the lines of the following:

1.0-1.20ct
Princess Cut
Excellent Cut
E-H Color

We were ideally hoping for a VS2 or above stone, but with all of those specs they seem to be above our price range. So instead we've decided to drop down to a more reasonable SI1

So, my question is... is this a good choice. Will this sort of diamond stand out in the room? Also, is it going to be hard to find a princess cut in this size and spec? I've heard that they're not cutting the princess cut much any more, as a lot of the labs are cutting round stones instead is this correct?

What do you think is an acceptable price point for the above? For a VS2 with those specs I think we were looking at around $8.5k at a 1.0ct stone, although I can't remember exactly.

Basically, we're really close to settling on something close to this...just looking for confirmation that this will give us an absolutely stunning stone at fairly reasonable value.

Hi Dave,

As you probably already know if you've spent some time here, if you want a diamond to stand out in a room, CUT is key. Everything else is a matter of preference and budget. You should be able to find at least a few good choices in that range, depending on budget ($8.5k?). Are you open to buying online?

Thanks for the reply! Our budget is more like $7-7.5k and we're ideally looking to buy local...just because we can see the diamond and they can show us the inclusions under a loupe.

We're definitely looking to get the best cut possible. All of the rest is secondary - even the size can probably shift lower if we found the right diamond at the right price. I've been looking online and found it really hard to find a diamond with these specs, regardless of the price

You can't see them in person unless you order, but you CAN see a hugely magnified image!

If you decide to buy local, see if whichever jeweler you use can call in AGS0 (Ideal) Princess cuts. This will guarantee a good standard of cut.
