Good Diamond and Price

I have been looking around these forums for a little while and i was hoping for your suggestion.

At a local small retailer they offered a GIA Round Diamond .85 Carat. With a D Color and Ideal Cut. Si1 clarity for 3800. I was hoping for a bigger diamond but for those specs it seems like a really good deal. What do you think. I was hoping for closer to 1 but I wanted to keep the diamond cost under 4k. I know the cut is most important. Thanks for the help.

Do you have more specific stats? If so you could plug them into the diamond search tool on the homepage here and get an idea of online pricing for that carat size, color, and clarity is for a RB. Also, would you consider going down a bit in color grade (such as H, I, J) to get a larger stone for your budget?

I wish I knew the rest and I would look it up. I personally would rather have a lower color so I could get a better size but that was all he had he is going to try and get some in to show me. I would like to get the diamond and setting from the same place so they can put in the diamond.

If it was ideal, and confirmed...probably not a bad deal. Generally, though, if you compare to comparables above on the Pricescope your diamond area...you''ll see that at least compared to what''s available here...it''s just comparably priced.

That looks like a good diamond how much did it cost? Do i need to worry about a H color.

H color is quite fine.

And the Whiteflash G is nice.

I''d go down in color so you can bump up the size...or even keep the size the same, but drop the color to get a better deal (like the ones posted above). I keep hearing that H/SI1 (eye-clean) in a well-cut RB is the way to go, since most people won''t be able to tell the difference between that and higher color/clarity grades with the naked eye.

That G/SI1 looks like a nice deal, but you''ll definitely want to see a picture and also ask if it''s eye-clean.

And here''s a larger one (1ct!) that''s a little less than what you would have paid for the 0.85. I color will not be an issue in an ideal cut RB. And this SI2 looks like it might be eye-clean (ask first!).

it looks like they posted a picture of that G white flash one. How can you tell if you can see inclusions at the naked eye. It looks good.

On the WF site where you see the stone click on AGS and you'll see the report which shows the placement of the inclusions. Click on the ASET and IDEALSCOPE for magnifications and look for the inclusions (since you'll know where to look). And finally ask WF to look at it and discribe it. If it's in the expert selection catagory you can be sure it looks fabulous.

And with a $4K budget you could even go up in size if you keep with the G or H color range.

There is a 1.08 I SI2-- if you don't mind going to an I. You could have WF varify how different the color looks between the G and I.

Best to ask WF, they will be able to give you an accurate description. Also make sure your definition of eyeclean matches theirs, click here for more info.
