Good deal or not?

I bought the attached ring on eBay a few days ago and am awaiting its arrival. I bought it to wear as a right-hand ring and don't really care what it's worth - I got it at a great price and it's beautiful. Looks almost identical to the e-ring my grandmother had. Specs are:

- Size 7-1/2, 18kt white gold, approximately from the early 1900s
- Stone is .50, I color, VS1, OEC

Not having heavily researched diamond quality and cuts, I'm wondering what kind of a deal I got. Again, I paid so little for this that I'll be happy with it no matter what it's worth.....although the seller's policy is that she will refund the purchase price if the ring turns out not to be as represented (she welcomes indie appraisals on all pieces).

Also, can anyone give me an idea of just how old this is? Seller only knew approximately.

Hi Just wondering how little because in my recent hysteria I came upon several websites and auctions where they priced a ring like yours around 1K-5K.

I also some some independent "normal" people who didn''t know value started bidding very low.

Search some websites looks like edwardian period period based on filligree/design and they can give you a ballpark.

That''s what I''m guessing was the case here. I asked A LOT of questions, and from what I could gather, this seller came upon a slew of inherited items that she didn''t want/need and needed to unload. She put it up as "best offer" and mine was the only offer she got. That happens more than you think. My BF''s mother recently passed away, and I noticed that she had a lot of old-school Royal Doulton china in her apartment. I told him (he has no siblings and the task of dealing with her possessions was his alone) that some of those patterns are worth serious money, to which he replied, "I don''t have the time to research this, and you know I don''t have the room to store it. It doesn''t belong to me, so I''m just donating it to Goodwill....unless you want it." Well, I don''t have the room to store service for 12, either.

I paid $300. The gold alone in it is worth that much, so I figured the price was fair, even if the stone turned out not to be worth much. Not that I care, again - it''s gorgeous. If I was buying an "investment" piece or shopping for an e-ring, then I''d research more thoroughly...but I''ve paid more for costume jewelery.

Bridget you got a smokin'' deal and I''m looking for one as well.

You are totally right about the "I don''t care just get it outta here" thing and this is where the beauty of ebay shines.

Scroll down and it might interst you that I found a pink diamond (not or maybe) yesterday in an art deco ring.

That one went for way more than yours and was probably fake, I passed.

Based just on the photo, I''d say that setting is a repro, it looks too new to be antique, but I''m guessing based on a photo. You really need to take it to an independent appraiser and see what they say.
