I''d like some opinions on a stone I''m considering.

Th inclusion (there''s only one that I can find even with 10X) is a large feather that lines up perfectly with the pavilion facets and is almost perfectly virticle. it''s very hard to see with the naked eye unless you know exactly where it''s at.

It seems to be a good deal compared to the others I''ve looked at. It''s a local B&M so I''ve seen the stone. To get close to the price I have to drop alot in size .20c+ or way down in color. Internet stores can get closer to this than local B&Ms, but not quite there. And honestly I''m a bit leary of buying site-unseen (internet) after the wide range of stuff I looked at in person.

What am i missing? Any thoughts? Advice?

Some things to consider.

The ideal cut grade is being issued by the seller. This diamond would not receive GIA or AGL's highest grades due the thick girdle.

EGL is considered a little softer on grading than GIA or AGS, though EGL USA is stricter than the overseas labs. What this means is that GIA or AGS might grade this stone's color as a E or even F. If you are having problems finding the inclusions with the naked eye, then the SI2 clarity grade may be OK. Also, D & E color can be overkill. You pay a premium for those color grades and a well cut G or H color stone will face up very white and save thousands of dollars (or let you go up in size

)

This stone is facing up a little small for its weight because of the extra girdle thickness. A 2ct diamond should have a diameter of ~8.2mm

With this table and depth combination, I would want to see an ASET or IS image before judging. Looking at it in person, were you able to compare it to other diamonds in a variety of lighting conditions? The showroom lights in jewelry stores are designed to show off all diamonds very well, even the poorly cut ones. It is best to also take the diamonds over near a window and away from the spot lights.

As far at the internet purchasing goes, you will find biased opinions here. Most people here have bought diamonds over the internet and it is not a problem if you use a respected vendor. Some, like Whiteflash, Good Old Gold and High Performance Diamonds post a lot of information about stones, including enlarged pictures and ASET images so that you can make an informed decision.

If you like, you can post your desired specs and budget and let some of the PS diamond hunters recommend some stones for you.

What I would do jrisley if you are set on this diamond, make the sale final on the diamond checking out to your satisfaction in all aspects with an independant appraisal, especially if having an undisputed D colour matters to you. Also check the diamond out away from the store lights if possible to evaluate it for ' eyecleanliness' in that way, inclusions can pop out in some lights and not in others.
