Golfer Sergio Garcia knocks diamond out of onlooker's ring

At the Bridgstone PGA event, Sergio Garcia hit a ball into the bystanders area, hitting a woman's engagement ring. It knocked the diamond right out of it. Amazing!!

Gosh the odds of getting hit on the ring by a gold ball must be like a zillion to one and none of the prongs seemed bent out of shape much maybe it was loose already....

It doesn't take much with that type of 4 prong. Move one prong a hair and the stone can slide out.

But I was wondering the same, would a 6-prong mounting have helped?
I once had someone slam a door on my hand which caused my diamond (in a 4-prong mounting) to fall to the floor.
I sat through 3 hours of orchestra rehearsal with a 2.05 D/VS2 diamond in my pocket.
That got quickly changed to a 6-prong mounting.

My current pear is also in a 6-prong mounting.

So crazy! My husband was watching the golf tournament on TV when he saw it. He was so excited to tell me the story because he knows how I love diamonds. It's an interesting story, for sure. She is lucky to have found the stone.

I wonder if her diamond was chipped or damaged in any way? I didn't watch the clip.

What blew my mind was the "joking" by the announcer. Joke one: This was an insurance scam-- there really wasn't a diamond to begin with, just an empty setting. Ha ha. Yes, she hoped against hope at a PGA golf tournament that she'd be standing in the perfect spot to 'hopefully' have her setting smacked. Whatever!

Then, when they found the diamond, (joke 2) the same dumb announcer said that it might be a cubic zirconia-- no one would know if Sergio replaced it with a diamond.

I was insulted for this woman having to be degraded on national television, even if it was said as a joke.

I loved the "diamond in the rough" comment from the broadcaster, but he also says it looks like some huge carat - noooo.
Very pretty though! I like the delicate band. (I agree 6 prongs .......)

I too had my hand shut in a car door. The door actually latched. It broke one of the tapered side baguettes in half, but the diamond was still in the mangled 6 prong setting.
