I have in my possesion a ring that belonged to my grandmother, the stone inside it is round, and smooth from on top. It is brown in color and seems to have golden glitter inside it, giving it a slighty rusty shade. The golden glitter makes it looks slightly yellow at certain angles. I've heard its called a gold stone. Is this a naturally occuring stone or is it man made?

Is it this?

This is a type of glass.

It is man made. It is also quite an old material, documented to the 17th century and probably older, since the document is an industrial monopoly in Venice.

It is sensitive to heat and it will melt with the heat from a torch.

I have loved the stuff since I was a kid. It also comes in blue and dark green. I have hunks of it downstairs to work on projects later. And I purchased those recently. If it is scratched, being glass, a wheel with ZAM can touch it up. A treasure, but not particularly valuable.
