Hi

Just a quick question - I have some old wg earrings, I dont really wear, because they colour just doesnt suit my skin tone. can I get them yellow gold platted? any idea?

Would love to ask my local jewellers, but after a recent run in where they basically told me off for buying an internet diamond

(ACA from WF), and categorically told me that no, there wasnt a number on the girdle, (when I found it later with my 10x loupe),
Í am hesitant to go back to them to ask them.
Thanks heaps in advance

white gold is actually yellow gold thats plated with white metal. i''m sure there''s a process that could be used to remove the plating and expose the yellow gold. there are various alloys used in the WG plating process; the stripping process would likely depend on the alloy used. i believe nickel alloys for the cheap stuff & rhodium plating for the nicer stuff are common (i could be wrong). check w/ your jeweler to see what they can do.

I believe it would work just fine. When speaking to our jeweler recently, he thought I said I wanted a ring similar to one I already had, but in yellow gold. He said that it would be easy to plate it, and for an occasional use ring, would last just fine. That wasn''t what I wanted, but in any event, it sounds to me like he answered your question. Given that what you want to plate is an earring, I think it would be even more likely to work and work well. I can''t image your earrings are going to get banged around or scratched much.

I suspect most any of the jewelers here could do it for you. Call winfields.com. They have always been helpful and return emails promptly.

This isn''t exactly true. WG is yellow gold that is alloyed with other metals, THEN plated. So there is no YG to "expose" underneath per se. You could "expose" a slightly warmer white metal, but it wouldn''t be yellow.

You can purchase jewelry that is gold plated, but I don''t know if that is something most jewelers can do or not.
