Was wondering if anyone has ever attended a ‘gold party’? I received an invite to one and I’m unsure if it’s worth going to, especially with the current value of gold. Does it make sense to hold onto gold right now? Do you really make out with the true value of the gold or less because you’re now paying a ‘middle-man’ who hosts the party and works on behalf of the gold pawn shop?

I''m thinking of just going for the social aspect, but not bringing anything to trade in....

[I posted this over on the "Jewelry" thread, but thought you might be of help over here, too!

If you have anything you wouldn''t mind getting rid of, I''d take it and just see what they say. I have a few things I''ve often thought about when I see those commercials for the mail services, but I know those aren''t a good deal. I saw a news segment that said you can get the best deal by going to pawn shops and shopping around, but that''s too much of a pain for me. If I was invited to a party and would go for the social aspect, I would definitely take some stuff.

Thanks for the feedback. I plan on bringing some of my old gold that I haven't worn since high school, and just see how they value it. Who knows, it might be a good time to get rid of the old BFF charm that's been sitting in my jewelry box

My friend, however, absolutely refuses to turn in her gold since apparently gold retains strong value esp in a down economy. Who knows...

I'd prefer to sell my gold rather than do a gold party. For events like that, aren't you suppose to bring gold as that's the point? Kind of like pampered chef, etc., where even though most go for the social aspect, the host also goes to great effort to provide food/drinks and by doing that, you're to buy something (even if it's a potato peeler). Not sure about a gold party but try and bring a small trade and don't drink too much as that'll cloud your judgement!!! lol Last "party" I went to, there was about 10 bottles of wine.
