Gold, emeralds, pearls... this hunt is for you!

Is anybody good at puzzles? I just got a notice about a treasure hunt (proceeds to breast cancer research) to find a 19.5 pound solid gold statue of an eagle (valued at over 10 million US dollars) watching over a 12.73 carat emerald recovered from the Spanish treasure galleon Nuestra Senora de Atocha. I haven''t seen the emerald but I have met Deo Fisher and attended her memorial service last year. What a generous donation! A 12 chapter book will lead you to the clues. Although I have been diving on this shipwreck, I didn''t find any emeralds like this. What a story and what a cause!
