Gonna go to Derco tonight to take a look at some settings and diamonds with the girlfriend (mainly to make sure she likes what she thinks she likes, and maybe to get some insider info from her body language, etc.)

What should I bring? Maybe a note with the ranges for cut (pavilion angle, crown, etc.) that fall into the acceptable range for ideal cut stones? Anything else? What "hard hitting" questions should I ask? Anyone been to the one in Santana Row in San Jose? Anyone in particular I should ask for over there?

Thanks!

Are you allowed to take a camera? Definitely take a pad and pencil to take notes about what your gf likes and see if you can pin down what exactly about a ring makes her eyes glaze over with rock lust. I don''t know if you need to take notes on the ideal ranges, especially since your trip sounds like it''s mostly to gauge her reactions. The ideal ranges will come in super handy though when you''re purchasing the ring.

It''s all about what your girl likes -- I wouldn''t worry too much about having hard-hitting questions on hand to ask the jeweler. But make sure to look at a range of settings and diamond shapes!! Have fun at Derco

Thanks, justageek. Yes, I will be looking at her reactions definitely.

A camera is a good idea... hmm. Notepad, too. Thanks!
