Hi all,

I appear to be a pretty common breed on this board. I am planning to purchase a ring in the next few weeks. I went shopping for rings once with the GF, and her desired ring is a Princess Cut, Tiffany-style ring with a platinum band. Something that is not busy and would be timeless.

My budget is about 7000-8000, and I could go less or more, depending on the diamond we find.

We looked at Jared, and she fell in love with their ideal cut, so I definitely want to find something in the ideal cut range, like the ACA (?) cut from Whiteflash.

I like this one, but I''d like to find something a little bigger.

Any thoughts, ideas, help, criticism, jokes, et al. are greatly appreciated!

If I buy a loose diamond like this, where should I get it put into a ring?

I think I would prefer to order from somewhere where I can purchase the setting at the same time.

They have alot of settings. Just call them. Their website is still in construction so not all settings are listed.

All you need to do is contact Jon at GOG and ask him, I know for a fact he can get many settings not listed on his website.

If I were to jump up to a bigger stone, how is this one?

It looks good to me?

I am intrigued by this stone, but there appears to be a large inclusion. Would this be visible with the naked eye?

Maybe, maybe not, not way to tell except to ask GOG if it is eye-clean.

Looks good. ACA is usually good.

Thanks for all the input thus far.

This stone is new at GOG. Thoughts??

Compare to this stone, which I have on hold and was discussed above.

Can''t go wrong with any of these, provided the SI1s are eye-clean. I like the facet pattern of this newest one, but it''s notably off-square. My eyes would perceive this difference - I know this because I perceive the slight off-squareness of my own princess, which has a lower L:W ratio.

Both look good.

Thanks!

The F/SI1 is eye clean, I called and asked a few days ago.

As an amateur, will I be able to tell that it is notably off-square? Is it worth $1,000 to go up to the F/SI1 (I can afford it)?

The G/VS1 is Excellent/Excellent (GIA), where the F/SI1 (AGS) is Ideal/Ideal. Are they equivalent ratings??

Hard to say. It's not as much about experience with diamonds; anyone with a good eye can pick up substantial changes in L:W ratio. My princess's measurements are 5.38 x 5.50, and while I do perceive the slight difference, it doesn't bother me much. I think that stone is off-square to the point that it would bother me. But it's a personal issue.

Maybe have GOG make you a video of those 2 diamonds so you can see them side by side? They should also have different personalities due to the bigger/broader chevrons in the G compared to the smaller ones in the F. That is also an issue of personal preference, and I think a video could help you out there.

ETA: Regarding polish/symmetry, yes - the highest rating on GIA's scale is excellent, and the highest on AGS's scale is ideal.
