I´m new at this Diamond business. I thought I knew what I wanted, but the more time I spend in here, and the more I learn, the more in doubt I get. There are so many choises and a lot of really beautifull stones/rings.
I have chosen to start with finding the right setting, or at least narrow the search to 2-3 settings, before tackling the issue of finding THE right stone or stones. But I keep changing my mind, secondguessing myself, changing direction. On moment I´m SURE it should be something simple, then I´ll see a beautifull multistone setting, and now I´m SURE it should be a multistone, then I´ll see something with colored stones, and switch again.

I´M GOING NUTS !!

My budget is slipping too, because if I just spend an extra 1k I can get a better color, or a better grade, or that extra .1ct and if I don´t mind that extra 1k, then why not 2K ?
Pricescope is a pretty expensive and frustration place to spend you time

Sounds like it is time to get her involved to find out what SHE wants for her ring. This MIGHT make things easier. Take her to the maul and "wander" into some jewelry stores...

If you can narrow down the settings to 3 or 4 or so, you can post them (or links to them) and get PSer''s
opinions on them. We''ll be happy to tell you what we like. But seriously, you need to know what your
girlfriend might like. Take note of the jewelry she already owns, talk to her friends/Mom/sister or family
member who know her or...you can take her and try a few on and get some ideas (ruins the surprise but
she should be happy with the ring you finally pick out).

At a minimum you need to know what shape stones she likes...round, square, others...

For cost...figure out what size stone you want to get. What is typical in your area...1/4, 1/2, 1, 1.5, 2 carats
or more? What size do her girlfriends wear? What do you think she would like size wise? Check to see
what well cut stones in that size run. Again, if you can narrow it down to 3 or 4 stones we can help you.
Otherwise, you can tell us your budget and we can recommend stones that will give you the best bang
for your buck.

Good luck...let us know if you need more help.

Ah yes, but it is SO much more expensive to buy something without researching all the options first only to discover that you shoulda / woulda / coulda / and end up paying the price of mental anguish

Personally, I would focus on the center stone and have the diamond set in a simple traditional solitaire that can be upgraded for an anniversary... In my experience, most guys won''t get the mounting "right" beyond a solitaire unless their girlfriend is involved and/or dropped a really big hint. A solitaire is a timeless classic that is sure to please.

I agree with what has been said above. What kinds of setting have you been looking at? whats the general style and what are your top pics? I agree that you either need to KNOW the right style for your girl or stick to somthing simple and let her choose a more elaborate setting later if she wants. You don''t want to spend a big chunk of your budget on an setting you''re not sure she''ll like.

As for your budget, make one that you can afford and get what you want for and stick to it. Really, a couple of hundred over for just the right stone or one that little bit bigger is probably fine but if you don''t make firm boundraries it''s sooo easy to end up spending way more then you wanted to or can afford to.

Do you know what kind of diamond your want? Shape, aprox size? Because if it''s still a little over whelming people on here are a fantastic help in finding the right rock when given a few simple guildlines if asks nicely. Even if you find stones yourself that are contenders come back and ask for advice because people here will make sure you get a good deal on a great stone.
