Hello,

I posted a topic yesterday about a princess, but the more I look at the Radiant's, the more I like. The one problem though is how do I go about finding a quality one without having to pay shipping back and forth just to find out they face up like duds (this is from WhiteFlash)? I would go with James Allen, however they tell me that their ASET needs re-calibrated, and is showing more light leakage than is true.

I am looking to spend around 2000-2500 for the stone.

Cut is the most important, followed by size. Want as square a stone as possible.

Willing to sacrifice on color and clarity. I personally cannot tell much on color, and would take an SI1 or SI2 as long as it is eye clean.

Where is a good place to go for this cut? What are the chances WhiteFlash could find me a great stone on the first try?

Thanks!!!

I would go with a vendor who has the stones in house so their gemologist can speak with you and determine if the stone is right for you. Try JA, BGD, Whiteflash, to name a few.

Whiteflash doesn't have any in house... they need to ship them in, on my dime if it doesn't work out.

James Allen is having problems with their ASET showing more leakage than is really there. Could I still trust someone there to pick out a great stone?

Where else could I go?

Make sure you get the pricescope discount too:)

I don't think these are in-house (although you could call and ask?) you could also call GOG and tell them your budget/specs and see what they can come up with.

ETA what do you like about radiants that you didn't like about the princesses?

Have you checked out GOG's princess of hearts? They're hearts and arrows, but with cut corners like a radiant.. And best of all, on sale ;)

Good Old Gold has some really nice square radiants called Lucere.
Here's an example of what they look like: http://goodoldgold.com/diamond/7899/
You can call or email them what youre looking for and what your criteria and budget are.
In my experience they are very accommodating and will call diamonds in, send you pictures and give you their professional opinion based on all the tests they run such as ASETS and brillianceScope. They can even make a video so you can see how the diamond preforms "in real life"
I didn't even know I liked radiants until I saw the Lucere videos!
Good luck!

Thanks everyone!

I have noticed that there's a "polarizing" aspect around here sometimes.
If a given vendor does not love a given shape, others may fall in lockstep.
If a given vendor does not like a given shape, this will be reflected in representation. Photos, videos, that sort of thing.

The Radiant Cut- invented by Mr Henry Grossbard in the late 1970's. It has been developed and refined over the years.
The trademark of a well cut Radiant is the "crushed ice" look- which I happen to love.
To me, it's like a bottomless pit of sparkle.
Others who may have different opinions may use derogatory terms to describe this effect.

Of course it's a big world out there, many differing opinions.
Other cutters have tried to change or improve the design- with varying results.
If, for example, one wanted to "transpose" a hearts and arrows pattern onto a square or rectangular diamond, it is possible.
To me, that kills the design, but this is a matter of taste.
