GOG posts photos of their in house diamonds. But how much magnification do they use?

How similar will the diamond look once I get it?

Yes I know it will look smaller!!!!

But how will the facets and culet look? Will I even be able to see them?

JA''s photos say how magnified they are so it gives me an idea.

THANKS

err, most don't have culets. you don't really see facets that well from a casual viewing distance, mostly sparkle and light.

Hi Stone Hunter.

The magnification of our standard photography is pretty magnified. Since I don't have an exact magnification it would really depend on your screen size/resolution. On my screen it looks like a 500ct diamond.

If you'd like to see a photograph of the stone you're considering on someones hand for a size reference email us and we'll be happy to accommodate.

In the default graphic it will look most similar in environments that are generally described as "reflected lighting" environments as opposed to ambient or direct lighting environments. Reflected lighting means light that is generally reflected off of walls and ceilings with minimal stray or direct lighting. A good example of this would be if you were standing in a room with no overhead lighting and the primary light source was a window and your back was turned towards the window with the facets reflecting back the reflected light off the walls and ceiling. That view is not a very popular view however but as you're dropping that email request to see a photograph of the diamond in diffuse daylight and that will show you a more accurate appearance of what you can expect to see in more common lighting environments.

Kind regards,

Stone Hunter, GOG has been very good about sending me other pictures for stones I was interested in. You may have seen me post some around here! It really helped me get a feel for the size when they took a picture of 2 or three stones on someone''s hand. But what I will tell you for sure is..the diamonds look much better in person than they do in the pictures!!!

THANKS

Going by what Rhino said I guess I''m looking for a 500ct diamond

Thanks Rhino. I may ask when I narrow things down more.

Julie -- I''m looking at cushions. I remember Cehra saying she was dissapointed that the culet didn''t look as large IRL as in the photo. I like a large culet. And chunky facets.

No sweat SH. We're here when you're ready. We might have a hard time finding an ideal 500ct though!
