Hi all,

1st post here and I'm already looking for opinions/advice.

I found a 1.25ct cushion diamond that looks real nice to me but I want to get some expert opinions on it. (non-expert opinions welcome as well)

Here is what I know:

Shape: Cushion
Carat weight: 1.25
Cut: Ideal
Color: J
Clarity: VS1
Certificate: GIA

Depth: 67.1%
Table: 59.0%
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Good
Girdle: Thin to thick, faceted
Culet: Small
Fluorescence: Strong
Measurements: 7.18*5.68*3.81
Ratio: 1.26

I know some people are turned off by the J color but the diamond is going in a yellow gold solitaire setting and it has a strong blue fluorescence. Two things I'm told will make the yellowish color a bit less noticeable.

Asking price is $3k. It is a bit more rectangular than I usually see in cushions but the way it was cut caught my eye. Seems to have these dark symmetrical triangles down the center that I haven't seen before on cushions. Are these poor cuts? Is this indicative of light leakage? I have no clue. It just looked unique to me.

I'm including a picture for you all to see.

So have at it everyone. Deal or no deal?

Hi Krik, unfortunately I have no expert opinion for you!! However, it looks nice enough to me and I would be happy to have it! I can''t get past cut/colour and clarity I''m afraid, and have no understanding of any of the other specs and tools available so definitely do NOT take my word for it ...

Hi Krik,

Hopefully one of our photoshop ninjas can resize the pic then I can get a better view, it is huge on my monitor but it shows potential. There is a dark contrast zone/ bow tie running across the middle, are you ok with that?

Sorry for the large pic. Ive attached a smaller version.

As far as the bow tie, I guess that''s what caught my eye at first. But I''m starting to think that people might view this as an undesirable trait.

Thanks! It does look quite distinct...I think I know which vendor has it so ask if their gemologist can look it over for you concerning the dark area ( if it is very noticeable etc).

Ja pics have a high level of head shadow, much more so than real world.
I would ask to have their gemologist look at it.

Yes, the diamond is from JA. I put in a request for the gemologist to take a look.

Let us know what she says!

Light leakage is not necessarily a bad thing. It can lead to more interesting though no less attractive patterns.
The dark spots look more like head blockage to me - happens when the camera is positioned close to the diamond table and cast a shadow over it.

I find it interesting, with a L/W ratio uncommon in cushions. Wd you set it in E-W orientation?
Btw if you really like it, you shd care less about what others think.
