Gisele dishes out her opinion again

I started a silly thread months ago about how Gisele Bundchen really annoys me. She is always spouting off silly comments--and the ones about motherhood were particularly annoying (she claimed she knew what motherhood was by watching Tom Brady''s son--meanwhile the real mother was ditched while preggo for Gisele).

Anyway, now she''s come out with this gem! Glad she''s superhuman compared to the rest of us!

I'm not going to judge anyone's personal birth stories, but I do find it a little hard to believe. For example, she claims it was painless, but according to the article there was pain medication used (though not "serious"). Articles like this do nothing but belittle child birth and mothers.

I have heard of some women that get so focused that they actually don't feel pain. A L&D nurse said that to us during one of our child birth classes. But then she followed up with "don't get your hopes up, that won't be happening to any of you" LOL

I think once you have the baby you kind of forget what the pain was like. I don't remember it at all. I know I was in pain, I know it sucked, but don't remember what it felt like KWIM?

Kind of like the parents that forget what it's like to have a newborn in the house and make comments like "oh, yours isn't sleeping? I remember mine STTN on day 3"

Childbirth is painful. No doubt about it. I didn''t use pain relief for 3 of my deliveries and it was extremely painful! I think stories like the one posted give first time mothers false hope!

I also think it''s condescending -- like oh, you people might feel pain, but I felt nothing, it was easy!

I guess it annoyed me because she has a history of making comments like this..on topics she should just stay quiet on or keep personal. I know she''s not exactly a important role model so most probably ignore her ramblings, but still rubbed me the wrong way.

Personally I wear my 30 hours of pitocin induced back labor as a badge of honor.

I got through it with the worst pain I have ever felt. If she breezed through labor and delivery that''s cool, but it kind of reminded me of the all A students in high school who said they never study. Really?

Maybe she means that when you have a natural child you can go back to exercise almost immediately, and with caesarian you have to rest to heal the surgery.

I don''t believe that her childbirth was painless, but I don''t find the comments annoying either. I have heard so many stories about being like normal the next day after having a child, that I''m no surprise to hear another one

I''m thinking enough time has passed and she''s forgotten about a lot of the pain. That seems to happen to women who''ve given birth, myself included. I think it''s nature''s way of ensuring many of us will want to do it again.

I find the best way to ignore annoying opinions is to not go out of my way to read them (turn the magazine page fast) or to forget about them as fast as possible. This also works surprisingly well with people in my life.

Ah, her comment is nonsense. I''ve never heard of anyone not feeling pain (unless they were on the GOOD stuff - and even I was on some good stuff and still felt it!).

Okay, I don''t have kids, but when I read that the other day, I wanted to smack her. Sometimes I wish people would just keep their mouths shut when they feel the need to make comments like that.

I believe it. I was in back labor for 31 hours and 2 full bottles of pitocin. Horrendous experience to say the least. On the other hand there was another first time mom in my Lamaze class who had a six hour labor and said it was barely more than bad period cramps. We''re all different.

I''m not a mom, BUT...I took birthing classes with my sister in law when she was pregnant with my nephew since my brother couldn''t make it.

I was shocked when the nurse told us about a natural chemical that your body releases that basically makes you "forget" about the pain. I had a moment of...OHHHH that''s why mom''s lie about the pain and agony!

If I ever have a kid, I would have to have a pregnancy, delivery and first year like my sister in law.

She knocked on my door the morning of the delivery and said, I THINK it''s time. A hour and a half later...welcome to the world nephew. This was her first kid. She didn''t have time to get an epidural. She was in the gym, out and about three days prior.

First month of birth, both sets of grand parents, an aunt, her and my brother. First year...more relatives! LUCKY!!!!!!!!

I digress...my two cents...Gisele schmisele!

Ditto. I don''t know about *no* pain, but I do believe for some it hurts less than others and how that pain is perceived.

I also think it''s about expectation. I won''t say how it is for other countries, but here in the U.S. it''s nearly a given that you''ll need an epi. Women scream and rail on TV. Women who never had kids will tell you they are afraid of childbirth. Gisele could have been raised to see things differently.

Expectations can physically change the way you feel and the mind is a powerful thing. Ever need to prick yourself for any reason? I brace myself for it, do the deed with one eye shut and feel every bit of it. Other times I cut myself but don''t notice it until later and think to myself, how did THAT happen? Did they both draw blood? Yes. Did I experience them in two entirely different ways because of my brain? Yes.

I think for childbirth, there can be similar things in play for some people.

I don''t know anything about childbirth, but I do know that Giselle has said this about plastic surgery:
"No way (will I have surgery). Actually, I asked my mother the very same question and she said, ''It''s taken me 58 years for me to look like this. You think I''m going to ruin it now?'' She looks great, so I hope I will look the same."

Even though she''s obviously had a nose job and breast augmentation.

FWIW, I liked her before her nose job. She looked like Claire Danes.

Eh, I don't really care. We all have different childbirth experiences mine was the worst pain I ever felt until I got my super amazing, wonderful epidural

. & I can't really see too much of a difference in those pictures with her nose different angles, makeup/color etc.. so I wouldn't mind either one.

I think it's hilarious that she said she didn't experience any pain but the article states she wasn't on "serious" pain medication. Why was she on any pain medication if she wasn't experiencing any pain??? Or perhaps that could be the reason she didn't experience pain?

Her comments rub me the wrong way because not only does she seem to belittle women who experience painful labors, she is acting like she did something "special". Millions of women have gone through labor and births. Every labor is different. Hers was nor more or less special than any other woman's labor.

I think her saying about "focusing on every contraction" shows that their was pain but she chose to focus on something else therefore she''s not remembering "pain" but "birth". I do the same thing when I''m in pain (not through child birth, but generally speaking.) My mom had very easy and relatively painless deliveries. She had 4 completely natural births and has always said that the only "painful" part was the last few minutes before pushing. She was very focused and perhaps blessed with easy deliveries, but to imply that this woman is making it up is a bit snarky. I had a crazy labor and delivery that ended up with an emergency c-section and I certainly don''t feel that this woman''s remarks are condescending in any way.

Every woman is different, every person''s memory is also different. If this is her claim to fame, so be it. No skin off my teeth.

Is there anyone who can actually confirm that she had a natural childbirth? No.
Here's my theory: She really didn't feel a thing when she gave birth, because she was asleep. And she would rather stick sharp pencils in her ears than admit it. The comment about walking around and washing dishes on the second day confirms it for me. The lady doth protest too much, methinks. She also commented that the baby didn't cry. That would be rare indeed. Doesn't a baby have to cry to draw it's all important first breath?
I'm not saying all of the above isn't possible, it's just that she seems to be making far too many "So in your face MORTALS!" statements for the whole thing to be plausible.

If she's willing to lie about plastic surgery to avoid criticism, why not this?

I could be wrong, who knows for sure?

(I've never given birth, but I have had 11 kidney stones, which is apparently the next "best" thing, and I can safely say that no matter how much you focus on something else there is NO WAY you can ignore that level of pain)

I was walking around and washing dishes on day 2. Its what us normal people do! Especially when you have another 4 kids at home!

I don't know why this is such proof that she had a painless birth!

It is very possible she was walking around and doing dishes by the second day. I was up and walking 30 minutes after and spent the next day walking around the hospital because I needed to get out of the room. I also walked up and down the stairs to our condo and to the pedis office on day 3.

Wow, you are good. My sis uses pain relief for her first born but decide to try without it the 2nd time round. Ended up totally bloodshot face, her facial capillary blood vessels burst from her using using the wrong force and the wrong place... 3rd child pain relief again...
