girls, what''s your opinion on a guy wearing a diamond ring?

Not a fan. I only like plain bands on men. Apparently I''m a jewelry and diamond discriminator!

(oops...Kenny I actually intended this post on your other thread, and I'm not a girl, but maybe my post below works here anyway...)...

Two thoughts here:

a) Symbolism goes a long way with me. It was in the symbolism of the design of the wedding ring I saw that attracted me to it, with three parts...mainly a gold ring, but with onyx at the front, left & right, flanking a small diamond. It was a little pricey, but at about 10% the cost of my wife's ring.

But, only later did I learn of the custom in the Jewish tradition for a man to wear a simple gold band. Hard to say 20 some years ago if that would have been influential, but it may well have, and I wish I had been exposed to that earlier.

b) I do think there are "blessings," advantages even, to what might be otherwise nonsensical sex roles. I am glad to have given my wife a more expensive ring, glad it is the norm for this to be the case, so that we don't have to evaluate further, and glad to not be in competition with her when I wear a more simple ring (though, because my ring's design is unusual, sometimes I am asked if my wife has a matching one).

I''m with the minority on this one.

Sorry to say I find the idea kind of icky.

::ducks::

Ditto. I dont just dislike it, its actually a huge turn off for me. I think a man should wear a plain band, diamonds in rings for men is just way to feminine for me.

If the man can wear a diamond ring and not look like a mobster or a pimp, it's okay with me. I'm much more admiring of a tasteful diamond ring on a man than a big gold chain or bracelet. I've just never liked those chains at all. Smarmy, LOL!

Depends. I don''t typically like it when men wear big gemstones, but my husband and I both had four small diamonds set flush in our (different width but otherwise matching) wedding bands to symbolize having gotten married on the fourth of the month. The bands are polished palladium, so the diamonds don''t stand out, it''s more symbolic than anything else. I actually think it looks great, and he likes it a lot.

I hate to say it but when I see a guy wearing big gemstones I find it distasteful. I think that''s a sociological influence, because I obviously don''t think it of women, and why should I think it of anyone, knowing how much I like them? Huh.

Since you asked for the truth, I''ll give it to you.

I don''t like any jewelry on a man at all save for a plain wedding ring and a watch. I personally think of gemstones as feminine (although I realize historically this has *not* been the case). I don''t like earrings or rings adorned with gems on a man, personally. That''s just my personal taste, though -- as in, if I were dressing him myself. But there''s nothing wrong with it.

Any guy who is not my fiance is free to do what he pleases, though! Luckily, I found a true guy''s guy who will barely ever cut his hair, much less put on any diamonds.

In short no. However, if he does sport any, I prefer it unassuming and elegant, in line with the Pearlman''s ring example.

I''m also not a huge fan of jewelry on men besides a plain wedding band. I''ll be lucky if I can even get my FI to wear that! But if diamonds make you happy, I say go for it.

The only kind of jewelry I like on a man is a plain wedding band and a watch. Diamonds? No way!

Not my style..I also just like a watch and plain wedding band on a man and I am pretty picky about what kind of watch too.

I enjoy seeing men wearing all kinds of jewelry because I know we could have some great conversations. However but - I don''t trust a married man who wears better jewelry than his wife.

This exactly!!!

I have no problem with men wearing diamond rings. I''ve seen some very nice ones here and IRL.

However, I''m not a fan of diamond rings on my "future DH". I would like for him to just wear a plain band when we get married, but he''s kind of stuck on getting diamonds.

If it suits the guy, awesome! Some guys can pull it off, others look like fools. It''s all about the attitude, I guess.
i don''t mind looking like a fool

if i can have a HONKER on my finger.

I like them on a guy just fine, provided they aren''t embedded in some 70''s style nugget monstrosity, or don''t have a halo around ''em or some such. I think a guy who can wear them tastefully is very secure, actually.

As for YOU DF, YOU can''t wear a honker until Lange & Sohn''s and the other high-end watchmakers start making more fabulous mechanicals (that don''t look like the fashion-watch-du-jour crap) with classic styling, for women.

Fair''s fair. We get the big rocks, you men get the cooler watches. I find I always like the men''s watches better, but most of them are just too big to realistically wear...

And yes, that is a compliment to your avatar.

As long as it''s not too big, it''s not a big deal. But if his diamond is bigger than mine, it''s kind of weird. I''m just not used to seeing it. Except on mega-millionaire athletes on TV.

But in real life? I can''t say that I''ve seen a lot of men wear diamonds period.

My husband refuses to wear anything with any kind of stone in it, before me he didn''t wear any type of jewelry at all, not even a watch!

I have gotten him to embrace the chain, it was my Dad''s so he agreed to wear it and now he likes it. I also got him into watches since I bought him one for our first dating anniversary and now he owns about 5. As for wedding rings, he isn''t very comfortable wearing rings since he used to work with his hands a lot. Now he works in an office but still feels bad if he scratches any jewelry he wears. He wears a $30 tungsten band as his wedding band since he cant scratch it. His real wedding band he only wears on special occasions. As for any type of stones, he always tells me he only likes to see them on me!

I have tried to get him into it, he played nice and tried them on but they just don''t do it for him. Oh well, more for me!
