It’s meal time for 17-year-old Natalie Cooper and what is on the menu? Tic Tacs! That’s right...Tic Tacs! In fact, that is all she eats.
The teenager is battling a mystery illness that makes her allergic to everything but the two-calorie mints.
It is not easy having your whole life revolve around Tic Tacs...at the supermarket, Natalie and her mom stock up. Their cabinets are full of them.
Meal times are rough for Natalie. While her mom serves sandwiches to everyone else, Natalie gets nothing but a box of Tic Tacs.
But the tiny mints don’t provide Natalie with enough nutrients or calories to live, so most of her sustenance comes from a feeding tube.
“It’s very unusual but there are cases where people can’t keep anything down bigger than say, a Tic Tac, and they require artificial feeding through a tube,” Dr. Raj explains to INSIDE EDITION.
Growing up in England, Natalie was a healthy baby, eating regular food. But at the age of 13, Natalie’s stomach mysteriously started rejecting everything she ate, and her weight dropped to a frightening 70 pounds. Eventually all she could eat were after-dinner mints.
Natalie tells INSIDE EDITION, "I started with the big ones and they came up, so I went to these smaller ones, and they were too big, and now I’m down to the Tic Tacs."
Doctors still do not know what is wrong with Natalie, so for now there is no end in sight to her Tic Tac diet.
