Hello,

Are all girdles on round brilliants faceted? If so, why do some GIA reports list FACETED on the girdle line and others don''t? If not, why would one cutter choose to facet the girdle of one diamond and not the other?

Thanks.

Also... I read in a previous post (and noticed on most stones on the internet) that most girdles on large stones are faceted. A particular stone I am looking at doesn't list the girdle as being faceted on the GIA report, just Thin-Medium (from Sarin its 1.4-1.7). Would this be cause for any concern?

No, not all girdles are faceted. They can be natural, rough, plished or fac. It depends on the cutter (some prefer a smooth, unpolished girdle to a faceted one) and on the color of the stone... You'll notice that many low-color diamonds (K or lower) have an unpolished girdle... That's because it helps a little bit the color, making it look a little whiter...

Hi Binister,
As Giangi has said not all girdles are faceted, no need to be too concerned, if a girdle is bruted (unpolished) should look frosted or waxy. A uniform not too thick girdle, thats fine!
