Does girdle thickness matter with melee diamonds? If so what are the guidelines? As they are not certificated how can one tell a very thin girdle from a thin girdle?

Usually melee have medium to thick girdles... This is very common and it's OK to avoid chipping...

Most melee do come with medium girdles they are mostly all machine cut , if my memory is right this morning ?

To refresh your memory on where the weight could end up on a diamond here is a thick girdle from a diamond sold from the local Mall

Too thin is not good eaither , you can see where you could chip the diamond .

How important would a very thin girdle like the one Iceman has show in his post be on a small diamond of between 0.15 and 0.18 carats.

I'd rather havve thin to medium than thick or very thick on small diamonds. Every time you see a diamond with a thick girdle, you are paying for "fat" that you cannot see or enjoy. It costs more per stone for heavy make stones. Those that are too deep or have heavy girdles are deceptive in that they are a bit less per carat, but weigh more than a crisper make stone. The net result is a better make is also a better value, in many cases.

Thank you Oldminer, but this stone has two separate facets which are very thin. Would that be a concern on melee?
