Is an emerald cut diamond with a medium to extremely thin girdle (0.11mm/ 1.9%) easily chipable? Any quick information would be most appreciated, If I decide on this stone I am going to purcahse soon. Found a beautiful diamond just want to make sure I wont have a lot of problems with the extremely thin girdle. Thanks!!

With an Ethn girdle you have a higher likelihood of chipping the stone, but there is no guarantee that it will/won''t chip. It is recommended that Ethn or Ethk girdles in general are to be steered away from, but it also depends on your setting...a bezel setting will be less likely to chip....

Before eliminating a beautiful diamond with an extremely thin girdle, I would recommend having it examined by an appraiser to do determine where the extremely thin portion is, and how much girdle area it covers.

Often it is a very small stretch on a benign area of the girdle, or an area that can be covered and protected by the setter.
