I recently purchased a 1.25 ct G VS1, Excellent GIA cut, polish, symmetry. It does not have a faceted girdle. It''s a beautiful diamond and I understand that it has no impact on the grading of the diamond. Just wondering why the cutter didn''t facet the girdle? Any thoughts on this? Do you lose carat weight when you do this? I suspect it''s to keep the carat wt on that nice number "1.25".

If I wanted to polish or facet the girdle, do you know how to go about doing this and how much? Which of the two is preferred? I''ll probably not, but just want to know the options.

Thanks. Any info would help.

What''s a "master stone" mentioned in that thread? Thanks for the quick response.

You are welcome! Master stones are ones which are used to judge diamond colour for example, these diamonds are excellent examples of a D colour, E colour, F colour etc, so these are ones which the labs use to compare diamonds which are being graded for colour against.
