How important is girdle size on diamond studs. Total weight approximately .8-1.0. All are GIA or AGS certified ideal cut, but the better (lower) priced pairs seem to have very thick girdles. Is this important for diamond studs of this size and will a very thick girdle affect the fire and brilliance of the diamond?

schello.

if they're ideal cuts, then they wouldn't have very thick girdles. so either they are not GIA EX, AGS 0, or the supplier entered the information incorrectly.

So if we are looking at non ideal cuts, very thick girdles WILL have an impact on your stone's spread.

The very thick girdles will not have a very deleterious effect on the cut unless the crown and or pavilion angles are too steep.

If your goal is to own a certain carat weight is is the best compromise.
If you want the biggest best looking ear rings - look for shallow stones - they work wonders in earrings

Thanks for the response.
What do you mean by shallow stones? What dimensions should I look at to achieve this.

My goal is to own the best looking earrings. I will compromise size for a better looking pair.

Low crown angles, like 30-33.
