Is it possible to determine if all other things were equal, is one perferred over the other? Or does this need to be judged on a per stone basis?

Thanks,
Zach

If a diamond is going to chip it will be at the section on the girdle. ext. thin to knife edge is a problem . Medium to thin is acceptable. I agree with barry , need more info , this is a general answer about the girdle thickness and different shapes have different problems.

No matter what shape, try to stick with medium to thin, medium or sl thick. There are some exceptions depending in the shape, though. A diamond with ext thin girdle can chip quite easily.
