Hey guys/gals,

This is my first post, so my apologies if this has been answered before (I'm new to pricescope).

I found a GIA Very Good 1.2ct G-SI1 stone on James allen (link below)
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-dia...-g-color-si1-clarity-very-good-cut-sku-466907

This stone scored a 1.8 on the HCA even though it's graded as a Very Good cut. It also seems eye clean from the enlarged 20x image, so from it's actual size, I assume it would be eye clean as well.

Below is a link to a 1.18 G-VS2 3EX stone (with strong blue floro). It scored a 2.7 on HCA
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-dia...-g-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-467265

Between the 2, the VG stone scores better than the EX stone.

I have the 1.8 on hold right now because it is being reviewed by James Allen for the strong blue effect (I want to verify it's not going to be milky/hazy and that it's not really an H-colored stone that just happened to be graded as G because of the floro effect), but I'm almost leaning towards buying this VG stone, even though on paper it doesnt seem to that great on paper compared to the 3EX.

I'm not exactly sure which direction to go with for my e-ring rock. Overall, I'm trying to find a stone with the following specs:
Carat: 1.15-1.3
Cut: Excellent (but as this post states, a VG stone seems to perform better than the EX stone)
Clarity: VS2 or better. Although I'm willing to deal with an SI1 thats very eye clean
Color: G or better. Although I'm willing to go to a very white H (I dont want any yellow warmth on the rock)
HCA: < 2

Thanks,
Fausto

The 1.20 G is too deep and faces up (diameter) like a 1.1 ct stone. There is no good reason to go with a stone like that. I would encourage you not to look at very good stones. It would be far better to find a well cut 1.1 ct stone instead of this one. Stick with GIA Excellent cut only.

The 1.18 is a little deep as well (best to stick with 62.3 or less for depth) and it may have some leakage with the 35.5 crown angle. You'd absolutely have to have the idealscope or ASET image on this stone to be sure whether it was worth buying or not, although it is good to have those images on any diamond being considered. They allow you to choose three stones to ask for the light return images.

You'll have a better chance of getting a better stone if you aim around these parameters:

table: 54-58

depth: 60-62.3

crown angle: 34-35.0

pavilion angle: 40.6-41.0

Ahh gotcha.

I guess to find a stone within the specs and my price range, I'd have to go down to I color, and SI1. There are a couple of stones on James Allen that I can see are within the specs you gave me (F colored 1.1, but they have Strong Blue -> link below) but a stone this cheap for the specs, generally has something off. In this case its the blue floro. I could have them check it out as well to see if its an issue.

Assuming the G-1.2 stone comes back performing well (I just requested the ASET/Idealscope images) with floro and all, would it be a decent stone to purchase or no? Should i conside this f-color here? <----Nevermind just saw your response on this stone facing up like a 1.1 stone!
