I found a GIA 1.42 VS1 Excellent cut. I colour. It scored 1.2 on the HCA
61.1 depth
33.5 crown
41.0 pav
58 table

My only concern is it has stong blue fluorescence. Is that a big turn off for this stone? What does the fluor do exsactly?

UV light is absorbed, then emitted as visible (blue) light.

Strong blue is not a problem. You may have negative oily/haziness at very strong levels of fluorescence.

I have been told that when your inside it dosent effect the sparkle but when you are out in the sun it will look dull, or when in a club it will glow from flourescent light. Is that true?

it''s very rare for it to look dull in sunlight, and as I said, it would usually be graded as Very Strong if the stone had that problem.

Yes, it will look blue in black light.

I''m by no means an expert but strong blue fluor doesn''t have to mean that the diamond will have an oily appearance in sunlight. This is my new I colour with strong blue fluor in sunlight. If anything, it shows a blue/whiteness. The same diamond pictured in UV light. If you were in a disco, that had UV lighting, this is probably what you''d see. I love it!!!!!

It just makes me wonder. The price on this stone is really good for a GIA excellent 1.42 VS1 even if it is an I colour. I feel like something has to be wrong.

A 1.42 strong blue might carry from a 0 percent to a 3 percent discount, but in my opinion, unless the stone exhibits milkiness or oilyness, the strong blue will help the "I" color, making it appear like an "H" anywhere you get it close to indirect sunlight.

It has to be seen personally to be judged. If the fluorescence is not a negative but a positive, you might have a real bargain because of a "technicality".

I love fluorescence! I just think it''s gorgeous!

It is very rare that a diamond with SB fluorescence will show a negative effect such as cloudiness, you may notice it glow in a club on occasion however!

I don''t know if that is the case, less than one percent of strongly fluorescent diamonds will display a oily/milky/cloudy look according to the study done by the GIA. So evaluate any strong blues on their own visual properties should such a stone come along.

I meant to add evaluate any very strong blues as well as strong blue on their own visual properties to determine if the fluorescence has a negative effect or not.
