Hello,
I have purchased a diamond that is GIA. It has a laser inscription number at the top of the report, But no plot showing the cut/facets and the where the inclusions are!!! The jeweler said that you get one or the other! Is this true?? I would really like to see the facet structure and where the inclusions are! How do I go about doing this!

How old is the report?

After 2006 I think GIA had both.

Mine has both.....You might have to send the diamond and report back to GIA for a re/cert.

sometime this year ~march - juneish!!
Oh man I am stumped now! I tried looking on the GIA website, but got a little intimidated!

Go back and check out their site.
It doesn''t cost anything to look around

It has a GIA Dossier report, it costs less than a full cert and does not show the plot, although GIA has the plot in hand. They will only issue the full report if you send the diamond to them so they can verify that there has been no damage, and of course that it is the same stone.

Ohhh! So the jewelers are being tight?? Is that the case?
I am in Australia and the stone is set in a ring (by now I believe) So I dont think thats an option! But I would really love to see the plot!

What is the clarity grade? How heavy is the stone? Try to find inclusions under the microscope.

GIA does the dossiers for smaller than 1ct stones and they must always have a laser inscription - main reason is so they can ID the stone if it comes back.
What will you do with a plot?
They mean very little to me as there is little consistancy in them

I agree with Garry.

It is a business decision of the cutter to choose for a dossier for a smaller stone. In a gemological sense, it has the same value as a full report, and the identifier is a laser-inscription as opposed to a plot. It does not change the value of the stone.

Live long,

On recent reports I think GIA will offer you an ‘upgrade’ from a dossier to a Diamond Quality Report format for a relatively modest fee and they can do it without a need to reinspect the stone. Contact them and ask.

Did you get the actual grading report or the small card that gives some details?
