Hello all. This is my first post. I just received an appraisal on my 1.60 round brilliant that I thought was different enough from the GIA report to ask a question. The GIA has diameter at 7.5mm-7.55mm, table at 58%, depth at 61.1%, crown angle at at 34, pavilion angle at 40.8. Local appraisal (using a 15 year old laser measure) has the diameter at 7.52mm-7.57mm, table at 59.6%, depth at 60.7% crown angle at 33.8, pavilion angle at 40.8. Most concerning is that table is so different and HCA Scintillation moved from "Excellent" to "Very Good." Can anyone help me out? Thanks!

Sounds like insignificant measurement accuracy issues. I'd believe GIA.

I'd not worry and ... Enjoy your diamond.

I'd not waste money on any appraisal, local or distant, for a diamond that already has a credential (a GIA grading report) that far outranks what ANY appraiser can deliver.

Thanks kenny. Appreciate the advice.

I agree with Kenny. The lab measurements are the official ones. Their instruments are regularly calibrated.

The main benefit of the local consultation is to get verification that the diamond matches the cert, is in original condition, and that any issues are pointed out and any questions about the diamond that you may have are addressed. And of course a valuation if you need it for insurance purposes.

It is always highly recommended that the appraiser not only have proper credentials, but is also independent and not connected with the sale.

Thanks Texas Leaguer! Feeling a lot better about this now.
