I just recived my 2.17 oval yesterday and it is really beautiful. In some lighting though it looks a little yellow to me. It is a GIA cert so should I be worried about inaccuracy in color grading?
Chances are you are not seing the color of the diamond (it should be white all day) but the color of the lighting you are using. There has been a simmilar thread a bout an H color a few weeks ago... and this was the resolution. Your stone will look red under a red bulb... and yellow under yellow light. Incandescent light has a strong yellow-ish component, even if it is not really evident during normal usage. It is not the flash of the diamond that reveals its color best, but it's look face-down on white (as in really white, business card or resume paper). Did you see that "D vesus I color" thread? imagine that your stone is somewhere in the middle between the D and the I: there should be no color visible from the stone itself.
About the cert: GIA is as acurate as it gets about color grading. If the diamond matches the cert, I would not worry.
You are most welsome... I was looking for an example about just how much difference light can make, and HERE it is. Those are the same diamonds: just look at how much more colored they look in the last picture than the first ones! There is no point asking which photo is closer to the 'real' shade, computer pics are just not a great media to convey diamond color at all...
